Just another monopod shot, it’s amazing how a high or low angle can make such a difference:
🙂
I was slightly surprised that it was quiet enough on the relevant bit of the fence at Wings Over Wairarapa to sit down.

The Albatros D.Va has been registered as ZK-TGY
Also the original Camel (ex N6254, see earlier thread)
Yes, with the engine used by the R.E.8, and probably other changes.
The options are endless. Be nice to see some interwar types emerge as well. Dh9a? Gloster Gamecock? Pr how about some of the Sopwith one offs?
Having an original to work off is much preferred. I did manage a peek at the new De Havilland America DH-4, and B.E.12 (and new B.E.2c a couple along in the Flickr set linked)

Especially if it has got a Bentley BR.2 hauling it along – anybody know what engine it has?
Of the two Snipes currently registered to TVAL in NZ, ZK-SNI (“F2367”) has an original BR.2, while ZK-SBY (above) has a TVAL new-build BR.2. If the “planned for a Sopwith Snipe to come over from NZ with the Albatros” machine is a currently unknown one (and we are watching the NZ register especially carefully), a new-build BR.2 seems most likely.
Being allowed to wander around a hangar (mainly) full of them is kind of over-whelming!
This set tries to give an overall feel of the TVAL public hangar: https://www.flickr.com/photos/errolgc/sets/72157650330063619/
In this instance the non-TVAL-built machines were mainly on their way to Australia for Avalon Airshow, so they are nearly all TVAL reproductions, or originals.
A couple of sample detail shots:

Great, a new Albatros D.Va for me to see at Omaka!
It is possible that this is the Snipe in question (from my hangar visit on Jan 31st/Feb 1st, click through for more photos of it, and the ex-RAFM Hanriot)

36 hp. The reduced drag from lack of wing struts and conventional landing gear makes them faster than a Piper Cub with twice the power. Rate of climb though, is a different issue!
It certainly put on a fine display at Wairarapa. There is plenty of airfield to turn over, so it stayed in front of the crowd throughout.
Well if we read what Temora says…

RAAF Sabre flying this weekend for Aircraft Showcase
06/02/2015 Filed in: Aircraft Showcase | Airshow | Sabre
The RAAF Sabre is part of the line-up for Aircraft Showcase – Fighters at Temora Aviation Museum this weekend. It will fly with the Museum’s Meteor, Boomerang and Spitfire as part of the flying program. The next scheduled appearance for the RAAF Sabre is the Avalon Airshow later this month and after that, the Sabre will be removed from flying status for the foreseeable future. The aircraft is fitted with a Martin-Baker ejection seat which was retrofitted to the aircraft during the return to flight service program at the Museum. Martin-Baker has notified operators of historic ejection seats that they have ceased supplying parts for all historic ejection seats. This means the Sabre will be out of the air until a suitable course of action is determined, since Air Force’s current policy is to only operate the aircraft with a serviceable ejection seat. TAM’s Meteor F.8 will continue to fly for a period of time as TAM has in stock the required ejection seat consumables to keep the aircraft airworthy for a number of years.
AIRCDRE David Pietsch AM, who oversees RAAF Sabre operations as Air Force’s representative said: “In 2006 the RAAF loaned the Sabre to the Temora Aviation Museum, who subsequently returned it to flying condition over a three year period, after it had not flown for 14 years. Since that time it has successfully performed at many flying displays around the country and has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of spectators. The RAAF and Temora Aviation Museum will continue to work together in seeking available options for the Sabre’s return to flight, but for now, the aircraft will stop flying after Avalon Airshow”
The picture on the front gives a better indication of what colour to paint it!
ISO containers only take a maximum height of 2m (or something like that). On it’s undercarriage the Hellcat looks considerably taller (and probably longer than an ISO unit) than that so it will have to go on top of the ISO units in an open container on the ship.
You can go considerably over-length, and also over-height (with top-of-stack transit, obviously), and still be enclosed if you are prepared to do a bit of metalwork!

I’m not saying that taking the KA114 option would be better in this instance, just showing an example of alternatives.
Weld two ISOs together?…
That’s what they did with the wing for Mosquito KA114. There the issue was length and height. Not sure how they positioned the lugs, or if an intermediate frame was used to lift onto the top deck. I imagine this is easier than dealing with over-wide. Also, not sure if there are any Ro-Ro options NZ-NorAm.

I was at the TVAL Flying Weekend yesterday (somewhat less crowded hangar than normal!).
The most-junior pilot was looking forward to re-rigging the R.E.8 the least.
I’ll be doing a post here about the pre-WW2 aircraft at the recent Wings Over Wairarapa show and the Flying Weekend soon-ish, probably this upcoming weekend.
Not England, but The Vintage Aviator either did or organised the restoration of Kermit Week’s Lancaster front turret as part of a deal to use it for the Dambusters movie.
The snowy shots give me an urge to post some from the 30degC+ Wings Over Wairarapa show here in NZ.
Again thanks for the updates. I even spotted a Long Ez today myself!
