If you plan on booking soon then perhaps it’s too late. But what’s wrong with just saving up for the trip and buying it all in one go?

I don’t see the difference between setting aside £x each month for the flights until you have enough and paying for the flights in instalments to the airline?

Hoping to book for travel in December/January 2014, since booking in advance usually means lower fares. Traveling with a large family, its easier to pay in instalments since saving up isn’t possible as other expenses take priority, whereas by having the obligation of payment to an agent makes it more liable. Also putting money aside would mean having to book later in the year and risk the air fare increasing.. But it was just a thought, anyway.

Thanks for the replies, I think it would be a good business idea for agencies here in Europe, and surprised its not offered especially in times of economic hardship!

I booked with Lufthansa, share-coding my trip through to Buenos Aires, and was able to reserve seats on the United ‘manage my bookings’ bit. I hope it’s legit and that they are actually reserved.. Would hate to sit 29hours away from the window!

I’m flying United to Newark on the 757 in a few weeks time and I’ve managed to reserve the last remaining window seat- it seems like the flight is already pretty full. And that’s on the third flight of the day.
I agree, it’s probably pure coincidence.

Tragic story. Unfortunately, people reach levels of desperation that hinders their judgement and obviously this man was probably so desperate to leave his life and was willing to risk his life, ending in what must have been such an awful death. Others might joke, but I don’t think there is anything funny about this story.

Just to keep this thread going I have often wondered what is the smallest scheduled airliner (aircraft type) which currently flies into Heathrow, anyone know?

I think the smallest scheduled aircraft type is the ERJ145 of bmi regional perhaps? Do they also operate their ERJ135 into LHR?
This could be followed by Air France and their ATRs, not sure if they are still operational on the LHR-CDG route though.

Are we talking distance or time? Westbound flights are usual a tad slower, and take a bit longer for distance due to the Jet Stream.

I guess we can talk about both distance and time. Buenos Aires must be the longest Westbound, surely it is still the longest returning to LHR too?

Flight time from Heathrow to St. Johns is only around 4hrs30min so well within the capabilities of the A319.
I guess we are used to associating transatlantic flights with long-haul aircraft, but the coast of Canada is closer than we think!

That said, I’d still not like to be on an A319 flying east-bound overnight… 😮

I agree opening the doors wouldn’t have made much of a differance. I live in southern Spain where temperatures reach 30c+ during peak times, and Seville is the warmest city in Spain, so opening the door would perhaps in fact make it worse.

I understand, after reading the other member’s posts, that indeed it is absolutely incorrect to deploy the slide. However, whatever the true story, I still do not feel sympathy for Ryanair in the slightest. This, in my opinion, adds to their poor reputation. Would this happen to Iberia, Vueling or other operators at Seville in that heat? Well, no because they pocket out to use the jet bridges which perhaps would allow passengers to disembark and wait in the cool terminal.

Either way, I still fly Ryanair (I’m flying at the weekend!), due to their cheap flights and comfortable routes….I’m not proud of it though!!! :p

Without a doubt, in my opinion, long-haul Airbus: A340-600. It’s elegant, modern, powerful and comfortable.

As for Boeing long-haul, it would have to be the 777 family. I think both the -200 and -300 series are just great.

When it comes to Airbus short-haul, I have a soft spot for the A319. It’s small, but powerful!

As for Boeing short-haul, the 737 family without a doubt! Especially the -800 and -900 series!

I got offered a work placement with Gulf Air at Heathrow for a couple of weeks, which was frustratingly cancelled a few weeks before the start due to ‘restructuring’ of the management.

I sent many airlines at Heathrow letters asking as well as e-mails and only a handful replied. Just keep trying and I’m sure you’ll find a placement.

Ok, granted, Ryanair is cheapest (most of the time). And yes, it does get you from A to B, and yes, it does have an excellent on-time record, and yes, it does its job.

Now, what I think you should realise is that however ‘cheap’ an airline may seem, its the attention to service and customers that causes it to loose out on so many points (at least in my case).

Ryanair have now introduced this new £2 delays and cancellation levy. Ok, you say ‘its only £2, whats the problem’. The problem is, why should the customer have to pocket out money (however little or much it may be) to cover for things like ‘delays and cancellations’. And also, why should the customer be forced to endure stressful boarding processes as if they were cattle. Why should we, the customer, be FORCED to pay to check-in online. Its like charging passengers to go through security: check-in, as going through security, is necessary and required, yet they charge you for it!

Ok, I agree. Ryanair is safe, modern (most of the time) and gets you from A to B. Its a joy to fly with..if you are a single passenger flying with no hand luggage or check in luggage and a smile on your face.

I was thinking the same thing today…except Im flying easyJet from Gatwick during the Christmas period!

I guess we won’t know till we get closer to the date.. I guess the worse that can happen is that either there is snow/ice/fog and flights are delayed/cancelled in which case I’m sure Kingfisher will get you out ASAP and offer compensation.

I’m more doomed with easyJet, from my experience they tend to cancel flights for a bit of snow while other carriers remain flying!
