    RE: EAL King

I think that may well be the case. After some significant upheaval from Jersey European to British European to flybe., I think a couple of years fleet stability and simplicity is what the airline needs. That was the conclusion I came to. They made a small profit last year – Jersey European never even managed that!

Perhaps they are having problems with the Q400s as well then!!! Talking to the airline, they said they have problems with the 146 specifically. I couldn’t seem to eek out of them what they were going to do as far as replacing them goes. All they would tell me was that ‘options were being evaluated’.

The signs for them aren’t good, esp. consideering the experience of Debonair who also operated the 146. That was one of the reasons I decoded to study them actually.

Currently writing a dissertation on their operations, so know them fairly well. Good little airline, Q400s are nice aircraft. Feel a little sorry for them, lumbered with the 146s. They give a lot of trouble.

Looks like another terrified victim of the 146 flap noise!

I believe the main advantage is accessability (if you mean wing mounted engines)?

Excellent report, very interesting account. Sad things aren’t going so well for Air Southwest

That last close up of the BA 744 shows it taking on some Air France-like qualities!

They look great in the new Air Transat livery dont they. They seem to have survived better than the DC10 haven’t they. Mind you i still see the old Biman DC10 operating out of LHR, the last Tristar in there must have been BWIA??? Cant think…

Good question. Couple of months ago that multi coloured one was parked near the BMI hangar by the road at the West end of the airport I recall

Haha Exeter mentioned on the boards!!! I’m gonna have to stick up for it!!! It actually does have fairly reasonable transport links, situated on the A303 and 3 mins drive away from the M5. Also 15 mins bus trip from the centre of the town. So on that front I think it will make a good hub (flybe. agrees). In addition, it has a fairly large market, including the whole of Devon and Cornwall who can only up to now use Bristol (an extra hour away).

No trouble getting slots (!!) and a new terminal on the way. Perfect!! Lol

Love those 747 classics with the P&W engines. Their days are numbered now as well I suppose…

I think he was on the wind-up. From what i have read, starting an airline is a ver difficult thing to do, not least due to the substantial capital required to even plan one. I think the best thing to do if you are seriously thinking about it is get at least 10 years work experience in one!! And save. Operations like Eastern (UK) and Air Wales or Air Southwest are probably of interest to you as they started of very small operations and are gradually exanding, concentrating on local markets and competing with the car and the train.
