The job centre deciding that I’m not allowed my JSA because, despite me actively looking for work, I’m not allowed to be unavailable at the same time. So, am I not allowed to take a short break??

Not only that, but they fail to adequately inform me that my JSA is going to be suspended!

So I have been three weeks without getting my JSA. Nice one.

In February the work I’d been getting through 3 driving agencies I was signed up with completely stopped. After 3 weeks of b*llsh*t from my local job centre I decided that claiming JSA wasn’t actually worth it for the amount of times I was expected to attend interviews/assessments/discussions etc meant I was spending a fortune in petrol!
The Government say unemployment is about 2.4 million but I imagine there to be about 1 million people who don’t show as unemployed as they know how difficult it is to claim any JSA so they simply don’t bother!!!

Is G-BCSL an ex RAF Chipmunk and if so what was her RAF serial number?

While they clearly could not have landed one could the RAF have not done a little flypast/air display of a Nimrod or two at Hatfield?

Fantastic photo’s but I have to say the new rounder intakes on the Nimrod MRA4 don’t look right when compared with the oval intakes on the R1 and MR2. 🙁

I was involved with the UK nuclear deterrent in three different phases. You can have no idea how difficult it was to get the Valiants across the N Atlantic at 40,000 ft in the early/mid-50’s. We, in Met, were practically making it up as we went along (just look at the normal commercial transatlantic crossing heights at the time!).
Then, at the height of the Cold War, we knew that if we had to deliver the Bucket Of Instant Sunshine then ‘our’ crews were on a one-way ticket. AND, even if you lived (as I did) only 15 miles from a V-bomber airfield, you knew that when “they” replied you were toast. But you couldn’t tell anybody that.
And later, when I was the Met Man on the Home Office Civil Defence Cttee, one learned just how little could be expected to be done for the vast majority of the population in a post-detonation environment. And (as a Reservist) I asked this Brigadier at a nuclear briefing “What my Unit would most likely be employed in?”. I expected to be told that we would be involved in some hairy meteorological enterprise(s). Not so. “Guarding Tesco wagons and shooting civilians, until you succumb to radiation sickness” was the somewhat chilling reply! But you couldn’t tell anybody that! Just remember that when you get shots or stories on the programme.
The technicalities will be fascinating – but there were people involved, don’t forget that!

This makes you realise all it would have/will take is one Bucket Of Instant Sunshine for the whole of civilisation as we know it to finish!

I love the 7th picture with the Red Arrows Gnats, but why is it every time I see a Gnat I immediately think of ‘Topper’ Harley and ‘Wash Out’ Pfaffenbach….?

Well folks there are GREAT things happening at the museum over the next few months and years for that matter. Lots of fantastic developments to come. On the paying money thing – we do have an insurance bill to cover and to buy the materials needed to do the restoration. There has been SO much work done recently to the Vulcan, the Canberra and the lightning. Lots of new members and things can only go UP from here.

    🙂

That all sounds brilliant, I would love to pop in and see it all for myself but I live 250+ miles away so unfortunately it would be very difficult! 🙁

Can only be one, the Hawker Hurricane!

The first monoplane to join the RAF and the first RAF aircraft capable of exceeding 300mph in level flight. It shot down more aircraft during the Battle Of Britain than all other defences combined and the only VC awarded to a Fighter Command pilot was won by Ft Lt James Nicolson a Hurricane pilot of No 249 Squadron on August 16,1940.

UH-1 just flew over Redditch heading SE(ish). It was the standard green with a grey underside and a red/white/blue band around its tail. Has G-UHIH been repainted? I am sure when I last saw it the colour sceme was green all over.

I’ve just had a look here,

and it seems she might always have worn the band, or at least has now for some time.

The RAF wouldn’t have to involve the CAA if it was operated as a military aircraft.

In reality could they all be operated as military aircraft and leave the civvies out of it?
