Is that WW3 I can see on the horizon?
What percentage of the money raised from ticket prices to the MoD get given by Portsmouth Historic Dockyard?
If they really can’t afford to look after Victory can they not just ask for a little more from PHD?
I know it’s now an ex-Hawk, but one thing struck me…
…why is this being discussed in historic aviation?;)
As the crash happened 4 weeks ago I guess you could just about call it historic news????? :p
If I absolutly had to chase a UFO this is what I’d want to do it in…..!
It wasn’t a leak, she was marking her territory!
You think? Not keen myself!
I have to agree, the pictures of the grey/green Hawk look alot better but the WW2 brown/green just looks wrong!
I agree with the dan_pub, the caproni ca.60 it only managed one flight which was nothing but an unmitigated disaster: The prototype only made one short flight on 4 March 1921 over Lake Maggiore in Italy. The aircraft attained an altitude of only 60 feet and crashed shortly thereafter. It broke up on impact and quickly filled with water, sinking to the bottom of the lake in a few minutes. Both pilots were killed.
HTF did anybody expect such a large ungainly aircraft like to this even think about flying?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Pilots of historic aircraft should dress as the original pilots did, not wearing 21st century bonedomes!!!!!
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
I’m feeling a little better now.
You been drinking too much Whisky……. Papa ?? 😀
The spit only carried 2 (sometimes 4 on ltr mks) cannons, might have 8 .303 machine guns though 😉Someone needs to call the roundel police about the targets (er roundels 😀 ),I aint gettin involved in that one !! 😀
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh! :p
Mr Picky, machine guns, cannons, they’re all the same to me.
ps, got any Whiskey I can have, I’m running out, hic.
Did anyone go there last year when the Black Hawks And A-10 Thunderbolts were training with the F-15’s?
Was amazing.
The A-10’s came from Germany as they were having a runway re done. Was amazing, Luckily we hit the jackpot one day when about 30 F-15’s took off with A-10’s, bombers & Fighters.
Then the A-10’s did little fly pasts, they sound so weird!
Wait until you hear them firing off the canon, sounds like a pneumatic drill at 5 paces!
I have always thought the tail flash on 1sqn Harriers looked, well, almost sexy!

Is the hanger visible in picture 1 the one used by 622 vgs? It looks alot like the one I saw many times when I did my gliding with the ATC in the early 90s.
its a really good question, although the harrier concept still cannot be questioned, it has never served in any situation close to the original brief,
i don’t know if anyone can tell me how early on the sea harrier was thought of. No doubt the falklands was its greatest moment, but as has been discussed before, it is probable a convential carrier force iwth the phantoms and bucc’s aswell as gannets would have probably done a better job.
I have never heard of any hoped sales to china.
But couldn’t this be said of many of the aircraft built since WW2 with the sole aim of fighting the Russians in World War 3?
The Lightning for example was designed with the capability to shoot down two Soviet bombers before having to turn back to refuel and rearm with another two missiles. What would have happened if the Cold War had had got hot? Could the RAFs Lightnings each armed with a pair of AAMs have seriously hoped to keep the Russians from invading?
“Jawohl Herr Reichmarschall, geben Sie mir ein Staffel Spitfires”
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
I think something else that makes BoB stand out from many other WW2 films is that the Germans actually speak German! Instead of some pathetic attempt at adding an unconvincing German accent to the English being spoken.
The photos are great but is anybody else completely underwhelmed at the Hawk commemorative camo scheme?
It looks unfinished with just the roundel on the fusalage, where are the aircrafts letters? The 19 on the tail just about works but including the three colour tail flash with a slightly smaller 19 would work better IMHO. Using the four colour roundel on the wings looks rediculous, non of the Spits use that and only arming the Hawk with a single cannon is also wrong as the Spitfire carries eight!
What? The Hawk can only carry a single cannon, sorry :p
