The Hotspur was doing ditching trials. I think Robert Kronfield was involved along with Mike Maufe, who past away a few years ago. Mike was in the Vintage Glider Club and had a Slingsby Kirby Kite 1 ( which his son still has). He did a lot of work with the AFEE.

Thats the same construction as my Singapore prop and the Hart prop boss I have. The Grebe Prop boss is far more intrest as it is laminated in stead of ply.

I use to have an article from the ATC Gaztte in the 1940’s about the Slingsby Falcon. I dont know if i still have it around. I believe it was towed up behind a speed boat. But what the tow rope was made from i have know idear.
Only the fuselage of the Water Falcon remains, the wing I am told are from a Tutor.

I have been collecting photo’s for a few years now. It can be expensive a shot down Hurricane sold the other day for just over £400 on ebay. If you get out bid there is always something else just as good that comes up.

The Metal? hull may have been the Atalanta, My dad told me it was metal when we where looking at it in the early 1960’s. He may have been wrong I was only five in 1960, we looked at them many times. There where only two hulls there both where near each other about two housebouts between them from what I remember. My dad is a aircraft woodworker and is keeping a lot of the vintage glider club going.

Lovely island. The War museum in Valleta was closed in december when we went. It should have opened in september I was told.
I was told that the Hungerford Swallow has a lot of glue failure, by someone who was intrested in it. I have an old log book of BA Swallow G-AEMW some where in my archive’s.

Sorry, no he was killed in september 1942 in the middle east. He in as a boy entrant and trained as a photograher at RAF Farnborough. Then went to Harwell with 105 and 226 sdn’s. He went to France a week before war broke out. He got out of France via St Nazaire to Liverpool. I have an ink well in the form of a WW1 Renult tank that he sent home to the with Rheims on it, As he wasn’t allowed to write home to say where he was! Other than a photo album mainly pre war and one in North Africa with no aircraft. All i know is from the family and his RAF records.

Thanks Andy. I have Peters book ‘The Battle of France now and then. I have indentified some photo’s for him since it came out. The photos you put in the latest Britain at war magazine,on page 54. Of the Battle’s attacking a horse drawn column where taken by my uncle Corpral F.G. Underwood. Who was attached to AASF HQ Rheims from 2/9/39 till the fall of France.
Dave
I dont know if this is the same Battle, but there is a mark in the white of the fin stripe. Which makes me think it could be.
Dave
I believe its a 103 sdn Battle as the roundel is near the tail of the aircraft. 88sdn had the roundel near the cockpit..
