Not heard of it for ages. I thought it only flew a few a times. I think it was difficult handle. What happend to the one built in the UK by Ron Souch, i was shown photos of it by his son. It looked nearly finished years ago.

I have just been given these photo’s by a friend. They show Zander and Weyl Ltd later Dunstable Aircraft Ltd workshop. Which I think is Luton road Dunstable. The aircraft are a Lilienthal Glider for the 1936 film ‘The Conquest of the Air and a Grunau Baby fuselage. Note the tree through the middle of the workshop!

From what i remember the airship came down at Cottern End as all the school children where on tv. The local pub The Bell? there use to be full of airship photos form the 1930s, when i worked on the roof in the 1980’s. Dont think its still open! All the R101 crew used it as there local watering hole. I dont think the airship flew again. I flew in one of the last Skyship 600 flights after the company had gone broke in the late 1980s I think.

I remember two flyingboat hulls at Felixstowe ferry ( Bawsey ). One was the grey painted Southampton house boat and very near to that was a metal hulled pre war flyingboat, which i never knew what it was. I saw them many times as my grandparents retired to Felixstowe in 1960. Also ther where landing craft that had been converted to houseboats. The other metal hull flying boat disappeared some time before the Southampton was rescued in october 1967.

The Luton LA2 Minor (the tandem wing) did some test flying of short duration at Barton according to C.H.Latimer-Needhan . A.Ord-Hume says it was only hopped. The wing section was Clark YH modified, later it was intended to change the front wing to probably Gottingen 387 section. Later LA4 Minors have a RAF48 modified wing section.
