I split my time between a ’03 Honda Accord LX and a ’87 Honda CRX Si.

We are limited here in the US, we do not get the variety of Euro- vehicles available in the rest of the world. Of the stuff we do have access to, Honda is the best for the price.

Honda- An engine company that also happens to make cars.

Van Halen did a lot of covers. Maybe their best cover was of The Kinks- You’ve really got me.

PRC does not now, nor never will have the resources to mount a sucessful invasion of Taiwan. Just at Germany could not mount the resources to cross 20+ miles of the English Channel to invade the UK in WWII, the PRC can not “bridge the 100+ miles of the Strait.

The PRC’s only hope to “conquer” Taiwan is to have the world (and that mostly means the US) capitulate to the PRC’s demand that their “renegade provience” submit.

If the PRC made a hostile move across the Strait, the US and allies would cut off the supply of oil to the PRC and stop them in their tracks.

To answer this question we need to know the type of threat faced by this country and what type of power it needs to project. Fast moving interceptors are of little use to a country facing an insurgencey by guerillas. Or marine patrol is worthless to a land-locked country.

Perhaps more effective before the advent of GPS guided A/C and munitions was the massive camoflage nets placed over Southern California airfileds during WWII.

The Lockheed plant and airfield (today’s Bob Hope Airport) in Burbank California was covered by a massive net that was decorated to look like a housing estate from above. My understanding was that A/C took off and landed under the netting.

Nearby the airport is the Warner Brother’s movie studio with many large sound stage that could be msitaken for a factory from above. As part of the war effort, the stages were painted with the name “Lockheed Aircraft.” Needless to say, studio owner Jack Warner was less than enthusiastic about using his studio as a decoy.

At least one of the stages retained the Lockheed sign until about 10 years ago.

Back in the Spring of 1974 my High School Social Studies class was invited to vist the USMC’s Camp Pendelton, in Northern San Diego County (about 100 miles south of Los Angeles).

Of the memeorable demonstrations that the Marines provided to us impressionable 17 year olds was an unscheduled demonstration of the Bronco’s rough field/short field capabilities.

There were numerable A/C in the air that day, mostly UH-1 helios. But notable was an OV-10 that made several low level passes and then landed on a grassy parade ground. The pilots got out, shook hands with a few people on the parade ground and then returned to their aircraft and flew away.

So by extention, the horrors of Japanes expansionsim in the first half of the 20th Century is his fault? And taking that logic one step further, it is the Scots who are responsible as well? Should we demand reparations?

Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey/Maturin series is 20 books worth of great reads. The Russel Crowe movie gets the details right, but misses on the plot.

Laurel and Hardy are timeless. The outdoor staircase used for the Piano Movers still exisits here in LA.

I would also offer a couple of timeless classics:

Charley Chaplin and Buster Keaton… oh and Harold Lloyd also.

Of the modern guys and gals Richard Prior in his prime.

Roy Horn (of Sigfried and Roy, the guy who got attacked by his white tiger) “knew what he was doing” also.

This Ozzie jerk has made a career annoying animals. I just hope one of them take him out before his kid gets eaten.
