Too many hobbies and too little time. Nothing too special.
I build model aeroplanes, do a bit of reggie spotting, take lots of photos, collect coins, stamps and first day covers.
I’ve got a collection of car brochures for the cars I’ve owned and a large collection of old SLRs, folding cameras and 1940s and 50s box cameras.

    When the Wind Blows (1986)
Raymond Briggs animated film about an elderly couple preparing for and coping with a nuclear attack. A very moving and emotional film. Beautifully animated. Not exactly enjoyable due to the subject matter though.

    Along similar lines,

    Testament (1983)
A mother struggles with her 3 children after a nuclear attack. Very well done but ultimately depressing film about the human condition. Like “Where the Wind Blows”, not an enjoyable film to watch but nevertheless utterly enthralling.

    Horrible Bosses (2011)
Three friends conspire to get rid their bosses who are nasty to them. I had low expectations of this but actually it was pretty good. The horrible bosses themselves, played by Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and Jennifer Aniston were particularly good.

    War Horse (2011)
Much has been already written about this film and it was difficult to watch it without pre-conceived notions about it. Having said that it was very good indeed. Beautifully filmed and acted, we watched it to see if it was suitable for our 9 year old. I think it is and it will be good for her to watch it in the run up to Remembrance Day.

    Midnight Run (1988)
Haven’t seen this for years and had forgotten how good it was. Robert de Niro is great in it as is most of the supporting cast, the FBI buffoons, the incompetent mobsters and John Ashton as Marvin. Great stuff.

I can only assume (and indeed hope) FLY.BUY that you’re being sarcastic.

What happens to all that slush and mud when it freezes around brakes, in gear bays, kicked up all over the tailplane. Another accident waiting to happen. Russia was it? Oh yes….

It’s easy to scoff at Ceefax now but in a pre-PC, pre-24hour news era it was a very useful media to get the latest headlines, TV guide or to read the letters on P145 or have a go at Bamboozle. Things are so much more accessible now and Ceefax has outlived its usefulness.

It did indeed make me smile. Mind you, his days were numbered when CMD gave him his full support!

….and so he paid the £160 and everyone lived happily ever after.

He paid? I suspect we paid.

Interesting. The listing I have is that the FDAR (that was the name I was trying to think of) was made from a section of XV147. I’ve no reason to doubt it but I’ll check the source.

The fact that the mods decided that the post remains is no great surprise – I didn’t really expect anything else. I suspect if the other person in the picture had been Thatcher or Cameron, it would have lasted 5 minutes but there you go.

I made my feelings known as I am allowed. Others disagreed – I know what I think of those that found the post funny but that’s my affair.

To waco – I’m sorry you wish to leave – in the time honoured phrase “Don’t let the b*****ds grind you down”. You should reconsider.

To the keyboard heroes who think it’s fun to insult and “bait” others – well, I think your idea of fun needs looking at. At least you are in no danger of falling foul of the forum rules. Not here anyway.

Go elsewhere? What and let you win? Not likely.

The problem has stemmed form all this is that certain folks on here seem to to think it’s fair game to make personal attacks and throw insults at those who dare disagree with them. That becomes the politics of the playground and you don’t have to look very far in this thread to see examples. Sadly the largely un-moderated nature of the GD forum means that nowadays generally people get away with personal attacks, trolling or whatever. Was it always like this?

Personally I couldn’t care less what keyboard heroes type about me, but if the forum is supposed to moderated then that means everyone should be playing to the same rules and just have rules ignored depending on who posts.

As far as the original post is concerned, I thought at the time and still think it was pretty bad as posts on this forum go, and reported it as such. I realize now that was probably an exercise in futility. I’ll never know as I was even given the common courtesy of an acknowledgement or let alone a reply.
I cannot believe that the moderator that posted the photo also moderates his own conduct. That doesn’t seem right somehow. No wonder the post in question is still there.

I would suggest that if you like sick jokes and photos, then there are places on the internet where they can be found easily. I just didn’t expect this forum to be one of those places.

I’m sorry this thread has drifted so far away from the serious subject it was dealing with but I think we all know where the rot started . A single misguided post that should never have appeared here.

P.S. Lincoln 7 – please, for all our sakes, learn how to use the “quote” function correctly.
    Thank you.
