With thanks to the owner/restorer, here’s the background story:
The Pegasus badge refers to the Pegasus Air Venture Scout Unit (AVU) that was based in Broomfield Chelmsford. This unit was RAF recognised i.e., 50% Scouts and 50% RAF. Pegasus AVU was adopted by 56 Sqn. Wattisham, in those days flying Phantoms. Many weekends were spent at Wattisham during the mid ‘70s and ‘80s, the Venture Scouts together with WK522. The then Boss of 56 Sqn suggested that G-BCOU / WK522 should display the 56 Phoenix, which it still proudly does on the fin today.
Thanks for that DCW!!! 🙂
Looks like Pegasus?
That’s what I thought, but what does it symbolise? Is it to replicate an old RAF machine with the same marking or is it the owners own little personal mark???
Quite right SF! Here is a picture of GR.4 ‘549’ taken in August this year…

I guess the top four would have to be:
RIAT
Waddington
Leuchars (2013 last one?)
Yeovilton
Anyway, what’s the plan with this F.53? I’m guessing this is the Dumfries example due to your avatar photo…
Avon weighs in at 2,890 lb
While it would be great to see a continuation of the return to flight ethos that has seen us able to enjoy the Vulcan over the past few years, I believe a great many people underestimate the effort required to keep what is currently flying aloft and viable.
It has become increasingly difficult over the past few years to extract from airshow organisers sufficient funds to simply cover the operating costs for participating in a show, let alone build-up some contingency fund towards future engine overhaul etc.
It’s all too easy to take for granted the aeroplanes we currently enjoy.
Fair point you have there Vampirefan!!
Please feel free to add current flyers to this thread which are worthy of continued flight!! I guess you will start with this……
Simply…… WOW!!
No price tag normally speaks volumes….
I keep checking the site to see if the Swift is near completion yet!
That’s soo sensible it might just work! Think of the political points that could be salvaged!.
Who needs UAVs :);)
Very true!
It would be good for both BAE and our government but like I said, too sensible!
