Big Beautiful Doll looks to be painted silver here yet at Duxford, just before her crash, she seems natural metal. When did she lose the paint?
Coventry Airport
I remember the purpose built ones when I worked for CFS Aeroproducts at Coventry Airport. They were origionaly built and designed by Alvis Engines..
It does say SPITFIRE on the attached tag…:D
Poor shots that are great….
Teddiedog2003,
They might not be the best, but I’m glad you have posted… Opitimises Binbrook to a ‘T’! Love the second shot of the T5 pulling into a climb!
WA577
Spock, she would basically be in the scheme she is now! The only difference from her flying days is she was actually pollished and not painted silver. For practicality I guess painting her silver would be the best bet. Go for a high shean bright silver metalic! The blue up the side would also be a high gloss.
I have a few pictures of her in her hay day. I can drop them by at the weekend if you want..
Secret Bunker and Dunino
Oh, I should have mentioned that the ‘Secret Bunker’, a now declassified cold war nuclear bunker is only two miles from Crail and is a cracking museum. There is also Dunino airfield down the road and is quite off the beaten track!
RNAS Crail – HMS Jackdaw
I love this part of Scotland and have only just came back from there today! I’d recommend visiting the now disused Crail Airfield as it’s like a time warp. Most buildings still exist including the four story control tower. Once you have had a look around visit the Crail museum in the village where they have many photo’s and manuscripts from aviation years gone by.
There is obviously RAF Leuchars down the road from Cupar and St.Andrews where you will get the odd 6 Sqn Typhoon knocking around.
P.S – the Golf Hotel at Crail does really good grub!
THREAD BUMP – HELP!!!
Thread bump..
Does no one out there have photo’s to confirm my thoughts on the colour of the 145 Sqn badge?
Regards,
Phil.
Love the Tucano picture!!
Good Home?
It says the Lightning is now sold – I hope it goes to a good home!
I was surprised that the only other aircraft on the edisposals site is a T5 Lightning!!

Harrier – A Force to be taken seriously!
Well said David!
I remember reading an article last year about the furture of the Navy etc and it was said it would prefer to keep the more than capable Harrier over getting the F35. It mentioned that the ideal procurement would be to buy off the shelf F18’s and keep a limited Harrier force thus having a very broad capability! The Navy did not like the idea of the F35 being so heavy and not being able to carry as much payload as the Harrier which was stated as a much more needed capability over stealth.
They are pretty bad snags… I take it all were electrical faults?
Nice pictures….but none of the Canberra PR9? 😉
Better than being scrapped!! Whats the story behind the Canberra?
