Ahh.. Okay. 😮
I’m normally on the historic side of things so totally missed that one!
Lakenheath F15 Down – Libya
Thought I’d share this… Crew are okay!!!
UK airspace..?
Would this aircraft be allowed into UK airspace or would it have the same problems that the reproduction FW190 had?
If not, our French friends would be more than welcome to bring her to the Great North Fly In at Eshott, Northumberland this year!
Google Earth
Thought I’d add this in to show the different time lines..
Katrina is also caught on camera here…
Fluorescent Red Orange
I must be missing something here…
If you read my initial post I quote the use of Fluorescent Red Orange (not fluorescent orange), sometimes also known as International Orange. This is a red paint that has an orange tinge when in direct sunlight.
When XN258 was stripped down a lighter shade of fluorescent paint was found on the rear of the aircraft but I feel this would have been from the days before she was converted to a Mk.9, pretty much as in the picture supplied by
Whirlwind2ba.
I’ve had a look today and found many pictures of HAR.9’s and they all seem to have the same shade of red/orange, even the Endurance flt aircraft.
HMS Endurance
You have given me a little doubt now but XN258 was an HMS Endurance flight aircraft… I’ll go back to my notes for another once over! Have you a couple of in service photo’s to show these two different scheme?
Any pictures of the ongoing projects?
These 135’s are seven years older than the Nimrods they are replacing but are having more modern engines fitted..
Return of the Toom…?
I haven’t been to Wattisham since the last Phantom’s left in 1992 but would love to visit again!
I see apart from the Phantom tail there is an outer wing section also from a ‘Toom’. Any plans to recover the Phantom from RAF North Luffenham for display at Wattisham??
Correct Colours…
Many people refer to it as dayglow, however the correct details are below…
For the ORANGE colour:
Fluorescent Red/Orange also know as Gloss International Orange
British Standard BS381C/592
Federal Standard FS595A/38903
Humbrol 205
For the BLUE colour:
RAF Blue/Grey
British Standard BS381C/633
Federal Standard FS595A/16044
Humbrol 79
There were other fluorescent paint colours used on the NAVY Wessex and Sea Kings but the above details are the true colours for that of the Whirlwind HAR.9

Phil
Almost Ready
Another post by our French friends… Maybe not too long before she is airborne!!
XX282 mistaken for XX232??
I know XX232 was used by the Arrows around that time so maybe it’s all just a typo..?
Maybe not 282….
I’d have to admit, it does look like XX282 but there is a problem…. I don’t think the Red Arrows started painting ‘Royal Air Force’ on the side of their jets till at least 2005/2006. I’ll have a check and see when that was!
Last Complete F4 Swift
Even with the state she is in, I’d say down to rarity she should be saved!!
