If she was to run again, I’d definately go down to see it as it would probably be the closest any UK Phantom would get to being airborne. The memories of RAF Wattisham are flooding back – sniff sniff……. 🙁
🙁
Cheers!!
Oh dear, I like to visit that site quite regular!!
UK Phantoms
With the Russians opting out of this agreement, does this mean there could be light at the end of the tunnel for the remaining UK Phantoms???

Drakens
One at Newark, one at Dumfries and one in Wales….
XR770
Yeah, I heard XR770 will be travelling to RAF Waddington for a full refirbishment then put on display next to the 5 Sqn complex as a mascot aircraft. More RAF units should be doing this 😉

Vampire T.11 XH278
Just to add to this story:
Vampire T11 XH278 was built at Chester and was test flown on 13 September 1955. It was delivered to the RAF Cranwell on 30 December 1955. Apart from one minor collision with a fuel bowser on 8 January 1957, it remained in service until 3 February 1960 when it went into storage at RAF Shawbury. In 1964, the Vampire was transferred to RAF Upwood for Ground Instruction Training. In 1984, it was moved again to Henlow (ATC) and later to RAF Henlow. XH278 ended its service career two years later.
The Vampire was bought in October 1992 by David Thompson, a farmer at Felton in Northumberland, who restored the aircraft during 1992/3. It remained on display at the farm until it was donated to the Yorkshire Air Museum by David and his young son Martin in November 2001.
Hope this clears thigs up 😉

She will look even better when she has all four tail pipes on and had all her flying surfaces re-skinned including her tail….gulp!
Windscreen & Jet-pipe covers
I plan to have two sets made up so there is always a spare! On another note to XL319, she now has her first of four brand new jet pipe covers attached. Hope the readers of this thread like the attached photo!!

Windscreens
Scott,
At work I can only manufacture flat glass pieces to origional spec. The curved plexi is a little harder and would be quite costly! This gold-fleck glass that has been mentioned is a type we currently have in stock so if I can get the drawings I can make up some new windscreens!!! As for the bomb-aimers windscreen, this too can be made up with multi-laminated glass.
