It was a mod in the early 2000s proposing a SEAD role for the F3 fleet – a few aircraft were modified but the plan was not continued (F3 community will say the GR mafia killed it!)

Woohoo – My 1000th post!
Quite right Dave… The correct designation for these aircraft were EF.3 and operated by 11(F) Sqn!
Taken from Wiki:
A further upgrade, disclosed in early 2003, was the integration of the ALARM anti-radiation missile to enable several Tornado ADVs to conduct suppression of enemy air defence (SEAD) missions. The F3’s existing radar warning receivers formed the basis of an Emission Location System (ELS), which can be employed to detect and locate operational radar systems in the aircraft’s vicinity. These modified aircraft were re-designated Tornado EF3 and operated by RAF No. 11 Squadron RAF.
I see nothing
Looks like a PC-6 Turbo Porter to me….
The Cranfeild aerospace range extension kit and Honeywell AS977 engines would give 146 close to 3000nm and 9 hrs endurance in basic form it has 1500nm and 4hrs endurance
That kind of range is not a patch on the old Nimrod, however it is sertainly a good alternative in this cash strapped day in age!
By the way, the Barracuda drawing DID NOT come from a ‘what-if’ modelling forum….
With BAE 146 option I thought the aircraft didn’t have much range over 1000 miles. Surely that’s not enough for loiter time etc. if it was me over the ocean everyday I would prefer the 4 engines to 2.
Looking at the BAE Systems ‘Barracuda’ side view it does mention Lioter tanks so guess these could be installed in what used to be the baggage area?? Wherever they have been placed it’s obviously been looked at! Also, the engines used on the ill fated RJX (which I assume are used on this beast) were more ecconomic and with higher thrust…. Thoughts?

In an ideal world, Nimrod would still be guarding the UK’s shores…
I like the BAE Systems 146 Barracuda as the cheaper alternative!
Steve, my next question is this…. Did this aircraft actually fly in these colours or was she a ‘hangar queen’ that was painted up just for this indoor occasion?
Sexy Hunter!
Cheers Steve, much appreciated!!
I’d be interested Steve as always fancied modelling this aircraft!!
The Hunter in question is Hunter XF431, tail code 62.
Anatoly has been very fortunate in the aviation world but I seem to remember news about GIS wife and child being killed in car accident some years back…
RAF Ouston, RAF Acklington, RAF Middleton St George, RAF Thornaby and RAF Topcliffe… As for the Navy, RNAS Jackdaw ‘Crail Airfield’.
The latest I can find is:

I was there too, also with the camera pointing in the wrong direction. I’d decided the weather would be better the following day so I’d shoot the flying then. Oops!
IIRC the only injury was to one of the pilots who had his nose broken by the other one when they first met after landing.
I was on the understanding it was a broken jaw..lol
