Well you obviously know more than those dear chaps & chapesses at the CAA Spadegrip, they claim she was a MkIIB Bex
Tangmere & MerlinPete, if u both read my post #7 I gave an explaination of the use of .303 blank rounds ( i used to use both rifle & MG blanks) Rifle blanks cannot be used in a .303 calibre MG as they will jam. Bex
Andy,
Thanks for sharing, makes me wish Id been born a few years earlier, but alas it wasnt to be. Still at least I got Milt & Dave to show me what Id missed. Bex
By the time it loads up it brings a whole new meaning to Historic Forum:dev2: 😀
Just like British Rail, always late but we got u there in the end :p :p Bex
Some of the ammo is pistol cartridges, probably .45 or 9mm, Im not too hot on those, but the others are definately .303, the tray u have in your hand Ive counted 3 possibly 4 BLANK .303 cases, which will only be from a rifle, as BLANK .303 for various MG’s had a balsa wood head which meant that any .303 calibre MG needed a special “masher” barrel in order to destroy the balsa wood to maintain gas operation of the working parts. One thing I do suggest you do, is isolate the .303 rounds with the heads still on them and have them checked to make sure their safe. Bex
If you register on eBay it will be possible to ‘PM’ the winner directly through eBay.
Will that still work even though the bids were kept private? If it doesnt could always contact the seller and go through him. Bex
Dave, the jag is enjoying a cruise still at the moment. I will let you know when it gets here.
Paul
Paul, any ideas how much work you will have on the cockpit interior? Bex
Spits were fitted with contra-props for a variety of tests, for instance, and let’s not forget the stunning Seafire 47 currently flying Stateside.
There was even a couple of Merlin-engined contra-prop Spits…..
Thanks Daz, learnt abit more about Spits the last couple of days thanks to u guys. Bex
Twelve O Clock High. Firs thought before watching was “Oh eck more Greg Peck propaganda” and how wrong could I have been. FIrst time I have ever seen this film was amazed by the story, how moving it was and the sheer fact they combined actual wartime footage with the movie and I didnt realise (but then Id never seen it and didnt know what to expect). Did I like it, yes I ruddy well did, and I shall be watching it again tonight in bed, very impressed with it. Bex

ATR, its funny u should mention that, coz I could have sworn I saw it take off a couple hours later whilst working on my canberra over at GAM, but I was busy repairing the nose to note the time, but it was after 1130 that i do know. Bex
Thank you guys
Ty everyone, well John, I like your idea of Shacklefire. Id never seen a Spit with contra props and i must say it looks pretty amazing, I think I might have a 1/72 Spit that could do with a difference Bex :diablo:
I can only guess that it might have been the Romanian registered exec 1-11 that was discussed on here a few weeks ago.
Anyone else got any actual facts?
1L.
Thanks for taking the time to answer, much appreciated but it was bit bigger than that, say similar to DC9 / 727. Bex
Cracking photos, looks like u had great day up there. Ok 2 questions now:
1. Why has the blue spitfire got 2 props or isnt it a spitfire but something else?
2. Is the FW190 a war time airframe or has some clever chap built it from scratch?
TIA
Bex
