another ” blue hour ” shot unfortunately i was only using a monopod for a ten sec exposure so some movement evident !!
but gives an idea !!

Looking at the photos on here only reinforces my opinion that sunrise and sunset are some of the best shooting conditions you can get. At such times it becomes more a matter of choosing the right shot than the right light.
mostly it depends what you want !! most subjects are good in morning and evening light
that is where the sun is lower and it gives a warmer more pleasing light
mid day light is very harsh !!
there is also ” the blue hour ” this is the hour before sunrise and after sunset
it can be used to great effect on its own but because it is less harsh light than sunrise and sunset
great pictures emerge long exposure , tripod , and fill flash is the order of the day for ” blue hour” photography

Nobody has mentioned yet how close the iceberg was when it was seen and how fast the Titanic was steaming. I’m sure there are lots of figures out there but the ones I have to hand are that the iceberg was something like 500 yards ahead when the officer-of-the watch became aware of it (cue argument about exactly what that means) and the Titanic was doing twenty-two-and-a-half knots.
Time-wise we are talking about 30 to 45 seconds to impact!
she was a large ship by any standards and was steaming full ahead at the time to be honnest i personaly feel most scenarios were unsavable for her
even with binoculars it is not a given the berg would have been spotted in time
the size , the speed and the burg most other factors become irrelavant
a ship that size manouvering that late was only ever going to have one fate
no mater what was done with the controls !!

a funny thing is thier code of conduct !! occasionaly you hear of nuisance beggars and the like but it isn’t usualy long before the regulars hear and see them off !!
mainly because they ruin it for the non harrassing ones
the crimminal ellement is soon seen off
of course not all are fully legal but the biggest percentage are just trying to get by as best they can
there was a case when one resorted to pinching a purse off an old lady in our town he was caught and sentenced
one of his own grassed him !!
he tried returning back to town after release and was promptly beaten up by the rest of the homeless and beggars and thrown out of town with the threat he’d get the same again if he showed his face again
i have not seen him around town in the last ten years so it works !!

I hate to say it BB, but I think you were conned. I was involved in a not disimilar incident a year or so ago. I have to admire your motives but perhaps we must all be more sceptical than we wouild like to be. It is a sad reflection on the way of life in UK 2010.:(:(
look away from the relevance of wether or not he was ex forces ,
i have worked with a lot of homeless people as a street warden
a lot are harmless souls ( well the biggest percentage actualy ) that are bigger fools to themselves
whilst you should never give money ( in most cases it will probably go on drugs or booze )
it is polite and human to ask how they are or in cold weather buy a warm drink soup or a pie !!
pocket change to us but a world of difrence to them
it is exceptionaly surprising just how many homeless are indeed ex forces
and it isn’t as simple as saying ” they are all scum and deserve it !!”
one guy died in my town because everyone thaught he was a homeless drunk hobo sleeping on a bench !!
in reality he was a respectable young man on his way home that died of a brain heamorage , and not one person aproached to do the simplest of things and ask if he was ok !!
