sureley you can’t be serious of that belief !!!

ferrari is a huge percentage of f1 , banning them would loose masses of money

they are like it or not the superstars of formula 1 and an aspirational car company

i prefer lotus , williams and mclaren

but ferrari would be a huge legend lost !!

agreed safety is now a lot better but it is still more risky than cycle racing

remember you cannot account for every eventuality

we could so easily have had massas’ name added to the list recently if things had turned out difrently

as for the isle of man , that is what atracts the riders , the adrenaline of it being dangerous away from the track

Whilst I would partialy agree, re fitness, and I would say BOTH drivers of F1 cars and the Tour De France riders must be incredibly fit, I bet the riders don’t get paid anywhere near the F1 drivers. Did you see the 180 mph crash, and the driver got out and walked away, (Thank goodness) but when a cyclist hits the road, and at a somewhat equal turn of speed, what protection do they have?.
    Lincoln. 7

agreed !! but there have only been three tour de france deaths

1935 spannish rider francesco gepeda ( died after crashing into a ravine )

1967 english rider tom simpson died of heart failure braught on by drink and amphetamines on an ascent

1995 italian rider fabbio carsatelli died after a descent crash travelling at 88 kph suffering massive head injuries from a roadside concrete block
he wasn’t wearing his helmet that day although the severity of the accident it is debateable if it would have saved him anyway !!

the total of tour de france deaths is actualy four

but the french rider adolphe heliere drowned on the cote dazure during a rest day in 1910

ronnie peterson , ayrton senna , tom pryce , roland ratzenburger , gilles vilenueve , peter collins ,riccardo palletti , mark donnahue , helmuth koinigg ,yochen rindt , piers courage , gerhard mitter

just some of the 24 on track deaths from a much younger sport

i dont see it as a ferrari problem !!
i see at as an alonso problem
remember there were position problems with him and hamilton when they were in the same team

i can’t wait till he retires as he seems to bring trouble if he doesn’t get his own way ( and if he does !! )

if alonso was faster , how come he couldn’t pass massa ????

unfortunately disqualification is the only fair thing to do as they were proved to be cheating ( so no way the result should stand !! )

terrificaly unfair to massa though !!

this also includes general design of the periods

there is absolutely no denying the art decco period spawned the spitfires gorgeous lines

the sixties heralded the period designs in aircraft too , hell the scrapped tsr 2 ended up on the catwalk used by a fashion designer

modern designs as well as function show the design era they were spawned in

terrific shots !! i have asked on here before but is it ok to use for refrence and templates for my paintings

    particularly the tornado take offs

as i’m considdering a german i.d.s. special livery painting

and the take off shots would make superb sihlouettes !!

‘Sailor’ – Do you mean Adolf Malan? I hadn’t heard about the sowester before! I thought the name came from a previous stint in the Merchant Navy.

it was a bit of both but he was known to use sowesters to fly in hat as well !!

Incidentally he now has some questions about his ‘unknown’ Polish Grandad, whom his Grandma met at a dance in North London in 1940. He’d told her he was a fighter pilot, but my friend had always thought he was making that bit up…

not necessarily made up , there were a lot of pilots ( even women ferry pilots ) we mostly only hear of the top few of the few who were the outstanding ones

there were also a lot more english names than bader , tuck , et al but the others were in the shaddows of names like those ( even english )

such was the time and job you had to stand out to be a personality such as “sailor ” known for wearing a sowester ( nuts ?? ) most deffinateley as it certainly isn’t flying gear but he was remembered !!

I hope it isn’t my last post!

Noel Edmunds. Don’t really recall the chap, doesn’t he fly helicopters?

    Glad to see you Kev.

not since his lazer eye surgery !! his old as350 lands near me regularly G-OMCC formerly G-HLEN after his wife at the time helen

i believe his last owned heli was an augusta although i don’t think it was flown much ( i may stand corrected !! )
