I used to fox hunt in my youth, I have to say it is a cruel sport, they certainly don’t die instantly. 🙁 It is a cruel sport.
certainly true , rareley any mamal has the fortune of dying instantly !! including humans
however the same day is good enough for me , as opposed to days or weeks from a p**s poor aleged marksman
Couple of my favourite clips.
the blue peter garden was the most hysterical T.V.moment in ages ( especialy if you remember sitting in horror as a teenager when jannet ellis broke the news
the faces were the same as they were back in the early 80’s watching that !!
sign of the times now the phrases ” whatever ” and ” it doesn’t surprise me !” are far more likeley !!

I think you may need to qualify that sentance.
Farmers use guns to control vermin, foxes, rats, birds etc which nature will not do for them. Pest controllers, and organised shoots are a regular part of the country scene, large estates with Pheasant/game bird shoots are prevailant, gun clubs and ranges exist, aswel as the illegal (though often by certified gun owners) act of poaching.
This is the case for both of the parts of the country that I have lived in, I struggle to believe for one moment that this does not occur in the large areas covered by Lancashire Cumbria or Yorkshire.
utter rubbish !! from the late sixties onwards my family and myself have kept horses on many farms ( not one farmer had a gun for pest control !!)
for pest control read ” i have a gun and i want somewhere to use it !!”
for rats a good jack russel ratter or ferrets are worth ten shotguns !!
foxes nowadays are more of an urban problem ( they are now cheeky and seek easier pickings ) proven by this weeks events with the babies
a fox is mainly far too wily for letting a human near with a gun ( a hunt is far more apropriate control !! ) unfortunately know nothings stopped that !!
i would far sooner see a fox die instantly by hounds than writhe about in pain for days or weeks through a poor shot !!
as for birds if left alone predatory birds etc will move in to keep them down
birds are left to their own devices where i am and the merlins , kestrels , etc keep levels pretty steady
there is some trouble near myself with a mink decimating a hen house ( but then , what sort of an idiot puts a hen house next to a water course in an area known to have mink
again a lot would shoot a mink as a pest but if you have mink ( unless it is a fish farm ) it can be a bonus as it will kill other pests ( being of the weasle family it is the same as having a ferret arround for pest control !!
gun owners will always protest ( it is pest control ! ) the reality is it isn’t
why do you feel the need for one in your house ??
i suppose having a licenced pest controler and paying for it is a far more dangerous option ,
than having one constantly in your familys home waiting incase one of you ( if unlucky enough falls mentaly ill , it could happen to any one of us !! )
i have watched it happen !! to someone you would not have thaught and believe me it is something that can happen at any time , and the person is no longer the person you know and capable of anything !!
and there is no gaurantee it will not be you or i next !!

Best thing you can do with your ‘fine southern UK beer’- can it and send it to Outer Mongolia! :p
Is anybody else sick and tired of hearing that World Cup song/anthem/noise yet?
i will love the football , but those bloody horns are intensely anoying before a ball has even been kicked in anger
i may well be watching with the sound turned off !!

We’re not talking about minor changes here and there – they changed the entire bloody resolution of the series!
Ah, Mr B. You are truly Mr Consistent. 😀
There is a long and ignoble tradition of top-class drama and comedy series failing to survive the journey across the Atlantic unscathed (in both directions, I might add).
This is just one more.
the lost in translation i feel comes from jumping the gun in coppying life on mars too early
i feel it was always going to be five series with the last ashes to ashes explaining everything
if you remember in the last life on mars ( uk version ) sam quized the landlord of the railway asking ” where should i go ?? “
the landlord ( st peter ) said ” wherever you feel you should be !!
lots of life on mars linked with ashes to ashes
phenomenal writing for sure especialy linking bowies songs and lyrics
another way of knowing ashes to ashes was always planned is bowies lyrics for the song life on mars
” it’s an awfully strange affair for the girl with the mousey hair !!”
finnishing with ( we could be heroes , was class !! )

I have lived in the country side all my life and my experience is that guns are very regularly used, for pest control or otherwise.
perhaps where i live lancashire bordering yorkshire / cumbria etc we have more sense then !!

I’m with you on that, she looked stunning in the first two series, but not so good in the last one, unsure why:confused:
probably her hair style typical 80’s stunning style in the first two series
what on earth were they thinking in the third series
i never knew any girls in the 80’s with such an awful hairstyle ( they were all very particular !! )
very much like regan but that was how they behaved in the early 70’s-early80’s
i live nere where gene was meant to come from ( he acted the locality personality superbly i didn’t realise he was a southerner till i saw him interviewed on tv during life on mars’s run .
during a programe of the making of life on mars ( quite a few scenes were filmed on my doorstep ) they asked a genuine male c.i.d. officer if he played the part realisticaly
his reply was
” if anything glennister played down the bolshiness and violence ! “
i remember the era if you missbehaved you were in the back of a transit van for a kicking off a burly copper !!
then off to borstal with you !!
we are a nation of softies with them now , it pays more to be a crimminal

Does that mean my farmer friend (a pillar of his Kent villiage) isn’t civilized?
If so, he’ll be relieved…his wife however, may be alarmed. 😮
They have legal shotguns for killing vermin…is that okay or does shooting the occasional rat make one unfit for modern society?
i too live in a farming area , not too far from cumbria
farmers rarely use shotguns for pest control ( letting nature take its course )
i have only in 42 yrs come accross one person using a shotgun as pest controll
the buffoon nearly took me out as well as a crow as i was sat behind an adjacent hedge fishing on a lodge !!!
even for pest control they should only be available to specialy trained individuals
a well trained individual would question first , what is behind what i am shooting at ??
