Air Force space chief open to flying on recycled SpaceX rockets

The U.S. Air Force is open to buying rides on previously flown SpaceX rockets to put military satellites into orbit, a move expected to cut launch costs for the Pentagon, the head of the Air Force Space Command said on Thursday.

Interestingly this is where superior technology with an inovative approach can beat lower manpower cost.

“I’m pretty comfortable we’ll get comfortable with doing it,” Raymond said. “This is just beginning.”

Vietnamese Air Force shops for new trainer jet

The Yak-130 has a glass cockpit and a fly-by-wire system from Avionica that can simulate the flying characteristics of Russian and Western bloc aircraft, including the MiG-29, Su-27, Su-30, F-15 and F-16. It is also able to simulate the handling conditions of aircraft in supersonic speeds, despite having of top speed of only Mach 0.85.

    Interesting

With news emerging that India is interested in buying the remaining 12 Malaysian MiG-29N and MiG-29UBs and in turn provide for a service center for Su-30MKM spares, it might just provide a little more impetus for the MRCA buy. Getting rid of the Fulcrum fleet will free up some cash, in addition to getting some cash from the sale, which would be welcome.

Statements made recently about cooperation with countries that operate the Rafale (most likely India, which trains RMAF pilots on the Su-30MKM and had a hand in the selection of the MiG-29N originally) would seem to indicate that the Indian buy of Rafales with the possibility of shared training and cooperation in spares supply is an additional plus point for the Rafale.

If they manage to have a Rafale build in India, that would be even a better intensive for a larger buy by India. However, the qty are not here for such an incentive beyond the symbolical level.
I was wondering if there was anything in it for a Teja buy. I mean, more Su30 and a batch of Teja for QRA would be quite economical on the long term. The Migs are not doing anything else in anyways. On the plus side they will get a large array of weaponry available through open channel.

India’s Hindustan Aeronautics offers performance guarantee for new helos

“PBL guarantee will ensure that the operational fleet availability improves from 60 percent to at least 75 percent,” according to a senior HAL executive.

The PBL forms part of a $1.23 billion contract from March 30 for the sale of Dhruv helicopters. However, the PBL has been guaranteed only for the 16 helicopters reserved for the Indian Coast Guard and not for the remaining 16 helicopters set aside for the Indian Air Force.

    The shootdown.

    Sad sight

Given that most of the OP call for slightly below medium alt flight, Iraki personels should be allowed to wear parachutes. On of them could have bailed out here as the 407 despite being in fire seems to autorotate during enough time (composites burning).

No Typhoon? They aren’t candidate for the finnish next fighter competition?

Entry for aircraft deployed in Finland by France:

    Mirage 2000
    multi-role fighter 6
    Rafale
    multi-role fighter 3

Does it means that the 2K will be offered to Finland too ? (Oh yeah, that will rock!)

It’s more the propulsion model that is interesting here IMOHO*. The hell with a radar when you’ve to deal with an advanced tech demo 😉

*We can guess that the V-tail arrangement is just an addition for low-speed/early flight configuration or simply outside the aerodynamic envelope tested with no or few impact on it.

Mattis seems to have this very much in his priorities.

It eats me up to say they will go with 34 F-35’s however did like the idea of a hi-low mix and if they went for 24 F-35’s and 26 FA-50’s the cost would be around the same giving them 50 jets instead of 34. The FA-50’s could be used for training- QRA/air-policing- and dropping bombs in low end conflict they could transfer 90% of the kit they hang off their F-16’s including targeting and ECM pods and allow new pilots time to learn before moving on to F-35

If they want to go for the low-end conflict, they could simply boost a fleet of turbo props and dual use it (training/expeditionnary). That would add a lot of realistic training and flying hour to their pilot. Imagine also Brussels ordering a Turkish design, that would probably spare us from all the heated argumentation for half a decade.
