In a House Armed Services readiness subcommittee hearing on Wednesday, subcommittee chairman Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., asked Lt. Gen. Scott Rice, director of the Air National Guard, about plans to retire its 236 F-15 C and D Eagle fighters as a cost-saving measure, and filling their role with F-16 Fighting Falcons. Rice confirmed that was under consideration.

And the time to double oscillations is what drive the level stability of the FCS. You want that time to remain in a certain range and give more or less control authority depending if you are outside that margin.
In other words, if you time to double the amplitude is low, your control surface will be more restricted in travel to prevent an unexpected departure than otherwise or the plane admissible AoA will be caped at a lower value. The “how Low” is dependent of the airframe and flight range.

Russia slowly distancing itself from rebels potential actions
[London lawyer, Samuel Wordsworth QC, leads Russia’s defense in the ICJ ] argued that “there is no evidence before the court, plausible or otherwise, that Russia provided weaponry to any party with the intent or knowledge that such weaponry be used to shoot down civilian aircraft, as would be required under Article 2.1.b.” In fact, per Wordsworth: “Whoever was allegedly supplying this Buk [missile system] was acting in response to a series of armed strikes by Ukraine’s military aircraft.” The intent, therefore, was not to shoot down a civilian aircraft but to take out aggressive Ukrainian military aircraft.

As it turns out, though, those [airplane] contrails “create long-lasting, and sometimes extensive, clouds that would not normally form in the atmosphere, and are believed to be a factor in influencing Earth’s environment,” according to NASA. And a major driver of those contrails is soot emissions, which often come from fossil fuels.
” … The observed particle reductions we’ve measured during [this study] should directly translate into reduced ice crystal concentrations in contrails, which in turn should help minimize their impact on Earth’s environment,” said Bruce Anderson, ACCESS project scientist at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia.
Planes that participated in the study used a 50-50 blend of traditional aviation fuel and a renewable alternative biofuel. “This was the first time we have quantified the amount of soot particles emitted by jet engines while burning a 50-50 blend of biofuel in flight,” said Rich Moore, lead author of the Nature report.

For the [US] Army, drone and counter-drone ops go ‘hand in hand’
UAS operations and counter-UAS operations “run hand in hand.” He also noted that they are thinking ahead in counter-UAS by trying to defeat the person controlling the aircraft rather than just taking the aircraft out itself. By disrupting the link of the system, the UAS will return “home” and hover over the person controlling it. EW can then hone in on the signal and find the person as well to be neutralized.

With both photonics and GaN , radar detection range will certainly improved alot. However, i don’t see those technology as the death to stealth. In fact, they make stealth become even more important given that technologies like GaN can easily be implemented on jammers which synergy signifiantly better with a low RCS assets. Longer radar detection range also help stealth aircraft deal with threat from optical sensor much easier.
Cost also. With a lot of different platforms now in need of radar fielding a high level of specific performance, photonics technologies will cut the cost of development and adaptation. You’ll have a more robust architecture than can be arranged without the need to costly customized signal amplifiers for example.

There is money to make in sustaining the 16 fleet. Money (on both side of the pacific) and jobs (idem). The MII and ToT are two different entities that should be able to be dealt in phases.
