Gorgeous Mirage 2000 enters the private aggressor arena

Intelligence Online reported that the Força Aerea Brasileira (Brazilian Air Force) finally managed to sell nine Mirage 2000s that were withdrawn from service in 2013. The Mirage 2000, baptized F-2000 in Brazil, has been active in the country’s air defence since 2006 and have completed more than 10,000 flight hours. According to Scramble Facebook News the aircraft involved are F-2000B 4933 and F-2000Cs 4940 (special markings), 4941, 4942, 4943, 4944, 4945, 4947 and 4949.

The company who is reported to have bought the nine Mirage 2000s is French company Procor, which is based near Paris (France). This company would seek to position itself on the market of Aggressor Squadrons.

airframe are said to be non-flyable and sold 450000$ the lot, suggesting that other airframe would have to be purchased to fly as aggressor. Notice how the buyer, Procor, is an UAE company based in France.

Don’t forget that dispersed STOVL allow a fewer number of airframe to log a greater nbr of operational sorties. Dispersed operation being more than ever a prerequisite for operating close to the FLOT.

I have also talked about this extensively in the past but IMOHO STOVL allows small countries with higher asset cost to divest expensive infrastructure and relocate their airbase farther away from population centers without inducing the prohibitive high cost that comes with CTOL airframe fleet.

If/when the public will become fully familiar with STOVL on demand mobility (and this seems to be something that will come quite soon as this industry market it), invariably taxpayers will turn toward their airforces demanding more than ever justifications for the perceived nuisance of military jets. When this time comes, the accusations of failure will be a natural temptation for the public.

Northrop, L3 to Continue Work on Navy Jammer Low Band Tech Dev’t Program

L3 secured a $13.6M contract and Northrop received a $13.5M award to demonstrate concepts for the Next Generation Jammer Low Band program and help the Navy design a modernized jamming pod for the EA-18 Growler electronic attack aircraft.

Northrop teamed up with Harris, and Comtech Telecommunications’ PST subsidiary to produce and demonstrate low band jammer systems under a 20-month, $35M contract awarded in October 2018.

The Navy selected Raytheon to develop jamming technology in a mid-band configuration in 2016.

Using Autonomous Drones to Rescue Downed Aircrew

The aircraft should be “highly autonomous” and flown remotely via secure data connections, similar to today’s remotely piloted aircraft. The service wants an affordable aircraft that can carry between two to four people, including one in a liter, for 200 miles. The aircraft should be able to operate in a variety of theaters, including the desert, jungle, and maritime environments, and its “signatures should be minimalized to reduce detection where able, with focus on lowest acoustic audible signature when taking off and landing with a landing zone that is not presurveyed and measuring 50 feet by 50 feet, but no larger than 150 feet.”

Ideally, the aircraft could be airdropped from a C-130 or H-47, but it also must be fully contained and able to be launched by a ground crew within 30 minutes.

It is already in the RFP that RUAG iwill be responsible tof fleet sustainment. Nothing to do with offsets.

Oh btw, did you notice that 20% of the offsets can be accounted as anterior to the RFP (RUAG, Pilatus…)

I don’t know what new phobia of you is this with Smileys (they are round faces much like a pumpkin) But for the 20%, US SOCOM bought a fair number of Pilatus (U-28) that should easily account for the 20% .

The most annoying part of this thread for Swiss ppl might be outsider judging their defense needs and their aspiration for the operational capability of their Airforce just by the say of it.
Swiss defense strategy has always been to be the harder nut to crack in the lot against Warsaw pact for example. They have a conscript army very much like Israel (but men only – at least what I remember). So why will ppl prejudge of Israel absolute need for the 35 while looking down a the Swiss airforce?
