The Mig 15 also looked fat in regard to the slimmed down 86, and what History tell us ? The 86 was indeed heavier and did not out-turn the Mig 😉

    Speaking about Migs:

Something that might inspire Darpa competitor (contact, lock, reel up, recover) although I don’t believe in it (time of retrieval doesn’t seems compatible with a flock of drone to recover and too much wobbling risks with the tether at close proximity of the mother airplane).
The problem is that with the tension in the tether and wave propagation, their are not enough aerodynamic control in a small drone to temper it.

i’m still pretty frikking curious as how to recover UAV in air,
if you see any suggestion, please post

Given that they have successfully demonstrated UAV to UAV refueling, the drone might simply fly back inside the Herc. Nothing more fancy (but perhaps some aero fencing to trim the airflow favorably).

A jet herc, would do good… Oooops

The system looks impressive as depicted by all communicating around its capabilities. The problem is a design one. A passive tether can’t get it in term of the expected reliability regarding cost.
Either you get a low end solution like the aforementioned one or they need to invest in a real active tether (or a dynamic Aerostat ?).

    Iterative design…. Yum yum
Ah, poor Europe, left only with the [worry]awesome airbus guys.

For dispersed, the tethered UAS linked to an army vehicle is certainly one of the way to go (dispersion, moveable + low cost).

Regarding the engagement, if that was a mini UAV or even a micro, why bother launching TWO patriot missiles. It does not make senses. I mean it’s an expensive engagement for a target with no asserted value (see ELINT aspect).
I understand that Israel face the most crasy range of threat but if so, the report should have specified this.

Israel fires missiles at drone from Syria: army

Two patriots fired and both missed their target? Who was this guy to evade a sophisticated IADS?

    Regarding ALIS:

Each country has the ability to filter what fleet information—specific aircraft location or failure incidents, for instance—is shared via ALIS to the rest of the world, says David Scott, Lockheed’s vice president of business development and strategy for training and logistics solutions. The data is distilled as it rises through the ALIS hierarchy, so that participating nations have the option to provide failure information without identifying all the details of the incident.

The short vid explains how and where in the perf spectrum the power was increased and weight slimmed down.

Otherwise, raw data after a 10sec internet search 😉

    T700-GE-701D
The newest T700 engine, the T700-GE-701D, provides the latest technologies for field-proven engines. The T700-701D comes with 1,994 shp and features 6 compressor stages and 4 turbine stages (2HP-2LP). The U.S. Army is currently upgrading its fleet of UH-60A/L Black Hawk helicopters to the UH-60M configuration, which includes upgrading the older T700-GE-700 engines to the more powerful and durable T700-GE-701D configuration. This is done with the use of GE upgrade kits. While maintaining a high commonality with the T700-GE-701C, the T700-GE-701D represents an affordable approach to improve the performance and durability of these engines. The T700-701D will power the newest Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopters and Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters.

    have a look here:

It’s a very complete and impressive package for the cost. The only think lacking is a Starbuck coffee shop inside. Obviously not a miss, if you are more inclined by leafs of Tea…

I wonder also if they are flown against the E2.

I wonder if the French are looking at carrier operations rather than than just seeing if a UCAV can be seen by a carrier.

Hummm. Have we seen any go around or touch and go? Usually this is the beginning (or the end). I mainly regards those test around the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier as a safenet imposed to monitor thoughtfully and professionally any test at sea (and you need remote space in order to accurately quantify the magnetic spectrum).

The difficulty (and the amount of money poured in) lies in reliability. Dassault took a convenient short cut as they were less stressed with wing load (delta wing).
The benefits are in payload and lifetime.

No. Dassault had experienced wing pannel in CFRP on the falcon and the Rafale’s wing is a byproduct of this.
