There is a structural limit defined as KEAS, not Mach. Typically you wouldn’t go beyond M 1.5-1.6 anyway as it’s a good speed for weapons employment and one you can achieve within a very reasonable timeframe with a full AA load.
Rgr. But I was referring to the available power to compensate for the drag of 3 EFT. Without those ones, it looks like as if the power would allow the Typhoon to reach even higher Mach. The stated maximum seems more in line with arrested temp limitation for the CFRP material… My 2 cents.

On the CFT´s, the only reason why they are not flying today is because no one ordered the “things”. Severall of the “promises” of the Eurofighter consortium have been canned by lack of customers (wich is something entirely reasonable, budgets “oblige”), i can think of the 1500L externals, the integration of ALARM, CRV7, BL275 and the original “CASOM” (AKA “Storm Shadow”), all of them on contract, all of them canned by the UK MOD circa 2006, or by lack of interest in the industry proposals (the original AESA offer), TVC, etc.Cheers

So, it is an impressive performance, not quite useful at range but for a dash or a take off on alert, it does bring obvious advantage. M1.8 is as fast also as a Rafale can goes and it is allegedly even faster that a 35.

I think it is understood that two EFT are dropped. The central station mounted EFT is supersonic.
But you are pointing it right. Only the F35 is credible if we speak deep OCA.

Don’t take me wrong, Ru aircrew certainly did make a fantastic job by going down low to make foe the lack of targeting pods when they had the occasion, but low collaterals is all about winning the fight. Otherwise Ru will still be bombing Syria in 20 years.
Instead of wasting Rubles, this should be a priority of Ru mod. I mean there are no valid backgrounds for this.

the company intends to maintain certain engineering parameters, including a weight and power requirement that does not exceed 10 kg and 100 W, respectively, and a broadband capacity of at least 6 Gbyte/s with coverage of a zone that is approximately 100 km 2 around the UAV.
100km2 represent really a small footprint for military. I understand that this should be enough for a civil operator as it represent the size of a medium city, but to sustain a campaign it seems too small. Think about a rolling front or mountainous terrain.
The glaring issue is that the USN is facing a serious shortage of planes right now. Why on earth would they give up jets? There is zero upside… they don’t get the money the Canadians would pay and they can’t even be certain a future Congress would fund replacement jets. (which would take a couple years to arrive even if they did)
C’mon, more order, more airframe to build and a decrease in cost. If Canada buy the very same plane as the USN, they can probably get the ones on the production line (budgeted by the congress) allowing some time for a ramp-up (which should be very short since they just slowed down).
There are ample rooms to accommodate for a new order in a functioning industry and the shortage in airframe is not probably so severe that it can’t wait a year.
Each of the early batch Rafale M were rebuilt for ~30M$.
Given the extend of the rebuilt (structure, electrical routing, and a full complement of systems), we can assume that it was cheap.
However those would have to be budgeted again to goes through the (canceled?) Aesa upgrade.
Surviving Rafale-M F1s will be upgraded to the F3 configuration, swapping out the core mission computer and cockpit displays, and changing the plane’s radar, electrical wiring, SPECTRA countermeasures system, and hardpoints. The 1st upgraded plane was delivered in October 2014
You don’t need to declare IOC for the sake of other aircraft crashing. It’s completely moot to declare IOC if you can’t reasonably deploy those aircraft on any combat mission to begin with. The flying itself is hardly affected by the IOC declaration. Simply train, develop tactics and when you are really ready and confident that the aircraft is ready to add an actual operational benefit to a deployed force or the forces at home, then declare IOC. The USMC IOC declaration looks like a tick in the box along the lines “look we have passed this milestone successfully”.
