@TopSpeed: Regarding the “improvised” shelf that come with the front cockpit external stairs :

    It’s slippy and narrow
Add costs on maintenance (man handling of supplementary item etc..)
Field location have to be provided with the adequate part
If not, pilot stepping on the plane induces extra cost with damage on the paint/skin
Pilots (instructor) can easily fall down and be out of the flight schedule for a month with induced costs on the training syllabus

A retractable step for the rear pilot wouldn’t have seemed such a luxury. I know my Swede. I might understand that it’s a cover up after someone messed. But now, shldn’t they take the time to make a correction?

DRDO at Aero India.. a fraction of their actual programs and items in production etc but probably tailored for the average folks at the Aero Exhibition.. typos in the book but still interesting

You mean that could be the result of 14th of Feb effect* ? A dinner in Paris, some Rafale and a Frigate for a diamond ?

Now the big questions that Fr have to assess is why it didn’t work before and what made that deal so specific.

    My 2 cents

The test is not relevant to conclude that the pilots are non efficient It shld be conducted on other type and ideally with other companies flying the same type.
It could be the flight syllabus that is lacking somewhat or some awkward safety procedures.

We know that the avionic of the -600 is build on a commune architecture with that of the Airbus jets by EADS. That commonality might have breached some old rules in the Turbo prop world.

Given that they will need a very high Alpha with a rather modest power, I will have gone go for FSW. But I don’t see the Canards. Canards are also draggy in trim and limiting the high alpha range (drag to “Over Trim”). Especially big ones such as needed with a FSW. So FSW and a Large strake with LevCON or some magic inside. Ideally some Palet in the exhaust nozzle to make for a cheap TVC.

Hummmm… wait. Isn’t there ,somewhere, a study with nearly all this alrdy included ? a small prototype with double cockpit, cheap TVC, high alpha, high roll and alrdy painted in white, red and black like a T38 ? 🙂

But FSW match the SC news.

Before ordering Gripen Brazil knew the UK would not allow export of British components to Argentina. Argentina knew the UK would not allow export of British components to Argentina. Why should Brazil cancel the Brazil contract?

I imagine KC-390 does not contain British components unless Argentina thought it would never order any for its own use.

Guys, let’s wait for the turn of power that will come with the next election.

We are witnessing the end of an era. A Dramatic end sadly. Nobody, neither in UK or in Ar will clinch-out from the present situation. Fact is ArAF ordering JF17 or canceling any fighter program will be disastrous and a very bad political move from all parties involved.

South Atlantic is far far down south when you have to move ship down there to bring supply or re-enforcement.

In addition to being a vacation destination for local and international tourists, Ushuaia is also the key access point to the Southern Ocean, including subantarctic islands such as South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands and Antarctic islands such as the South Orkney Islands and the South Shetland Islands. Its commercial pier is the major port of departure in the world for tourist and scientific expeditions to the Antarctic Peninsula.[citation needed] Cruise ships visiting the Falkland Islands (referred to by Argentinians as Islas Malvinas) and Antarctica dock at the port, as well as Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, and Celebrity Cruises, which transit between Valparaso, Chile, to Buenos Aires and beyond. Antarpply Expeditions, Global Maritime, Hurtigruten, Lindblad Expeditions, Orient Lines, Quark Expeditions, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, and other passenger and freight lines provide regularly scheduled services between Ushuaia and local seaports and settlements.

The only other local Dock facilities are in Chile (Punta Arenas) and although more modern and robust, in my souvenir, are somewhat landlocked (the main used road goes through Argentina)

French officials optimistic about Rafale sale to Egypt

chief Admiral Bernard Rogel confirmed […]that France’s second FREMM, Normandie (D561), which is currently completing its sea trials, could be handed over to Egypt later this year if its transfer does not impact on the French Navy over the longer term.

    This is weird.
An Admiral reminding the Political Power that the Billion $ ship he just ordered does have some kind of utilities for the Naval Force

    Weird time that we live…

Given that UAE has been trying to get Egypt to buy some of its (surplus?) Mirages, I don’t why they’d suddenly decide to fund an Egyptian Rafale buy.

Wouldn’t it more credible that he is in Paris to make sure they don’t get any raf ?

    Add to your list:

    C5 Droping Minuteman BM

    And

    C17 Dropping JSOW and MALD

C17 with MOAB, I don’t know about that. I was thinking it was B2 only althoufh it shld be feasable.

    EDIT:
I found that. Don’t know what it is but looks cool!

The “Bizarre” just reached a momentum.

Since we have been off-track talking about this, I was thinking it could worth a post.

    T-X ?

I know it’s only a double tailed T38/F5, but how gorgeous it is.

I wish they would have made a follow-on F4 on the same bread 🙂

Lets wait and see what they reveal. I think Boeing isn’t planning on revealing their design till closer to the RFP while Northrop Grumman would be revealing it and be even flying it by the year end. Lockheed also has something that is proven in the T-50 but given their control of the fifth generation market, I seriously doubt that the Pentagon would award them this contract even though the T-50 is probably the smallest risk given its in-service nature.

I was also surprised when Boeing chose SAAB and then SAAB said that it would not base the design on the Gripen. The official SAAB statement on the matter is somewhere on the forum. I think there was a bit of confusion because the media at large, reported that it would be based on the Gripen and SAAB came out publicly to deny any such thing.

Probably there is something with the Delta and large Canards. There was no point of carrying those draggy items on a light trainer (simulated system/next generation structure etc…). Especially when you don’t need short field landing capabilities.

Think about it, the landing gear gain only will be in the thousand of pounds.

But perhaps it’s only IP related?
