Plasma usage is not limited to any range of speed.

If you look at the true AoA deducted from the angle of the LevCon and LE (and not the apparent one), you’ll notice how the vortex stick to to the extrados.

I know somewhere at least a similar picture of a 106, a 2k or a Concorde from the ONERA. I will try to dig it out and post it for the comparison.

Whoever shot it down must be brought to justice. This is indiscriminate mass murder.

Why this plane was flying over that heavily disputed region of Ukr is the first question any inquiry have to answer.

Who gave the authorization? Who did not put a ban for such commercial overflight? What went wrong BEFORE the sh** hit the fan?

Let’s sort the things in the right order.

What a sad story. What a plea for the Malaysian ppl.

I don’t think the blur on top is covering a panel. I think it’s the spillway for the airflow from the engine inlet splitter plate, like the SH […]

It’s big for a spillway. But you’re probably right

The F135 holds the record in turbine inlet temperature (3600 deg F). In short, the engine is huge and runs extremely hot. Even if we don’t have exact data about all parameters, the real IR signature is likely even less in favor of the F-35.

    For comparison, some TIT data:
    P&W F135 – 3600 deg F
    Lyulka Al-31F – 2570 deg F
    Eurojet EJ200 – 2780 deg F
    SNECMA M88-2 – 2870 deg F
    Klimov RD-33 – 2560 deg F
    GE F110 – 2750 deg F
    P&W F100 – 2460 deg F

If temp reached are records, it probably uses advanced cooling technologies. So you can’t draw a direct line from the claim from GE to any military performance regarding IR.

It’s not an hazard if those nasty looking things are flying:

    Great pic.

The intensity of that vortex and the way it sticks at great alpha to the extrados is remarkable.

Seems we have solved the “Missile bay” mystery once for all.

Jรต, I understand that you don’t like speculations, but you shld add that one to the Plasma thread ๐Ÿ™‚

So now, what is last lacking for the family to be complete, is the Typhoon with its mighty 15% increase “magical wedge” upgrade

Most likely to “hide” the zig-zag doors as well as several smaller panels.

That side door close to the plan of intake is really interesting. remind me the one on the PakFa but on the other side. It converge (as a tech stand point) with the sloppy shape above the intake.

Unlike some are thinking, this is a really modern airplane. I won’t be surprised that one day we add the words ATD-X to the Plasma thread.

Regarding the paddle vectoring system, its a great alternative for a cheap thrust vectoring system. With a (large) bit of technology I guess that they could be made very efficient in term of drag, weight and wear.

Won’t it be nice to see that bird under that form substituting the T38 ?

    EDIT:
As a matter of digression, Paddles is what could give a future to the old Hawk – sry for repeating myself

I’ve noticed the strong secrecy involved in the photos release.

    Stark contrast to J-31 coverage.

Anyone noticed the high impact main landing gear ?

I known its hard to say but the difference lie probably in manufacturing quality. If it’s a hog to sustain (cost of spare, maintenance hours, infrastructure immobilized), then it’s better to kill the horse before it drown you in mud.

Sorry, now you’ve lost me completely. You seem to be arguing either for or against (I’m not clear which) plasma stealth. My text you quoted has nothing to do with plasma stealth, it was to do with “the usability of plasma for airflow control” as mentioned in the first half of that sentence.

What I was writing is: are we going to have to hear the same music that we heard with Stealth for years but only re-phrased with the word “Plasma” substituted?

    I hope its clear now.

For the rest. Endless talking is not my hobby. Commit.

When we will see a stealth fighter operational in Eu with some sort of an R&D CEE involvement, then we could talk again around it.

Just Cause was in 1989… We are now 25 years latter.

    Ongoing Search and rescue efforts

Plane was shot down at 6500m (BBC)

    An26
    8 pers on board

Officials said two crew members, out of the eight people on board, had been in contact with the army general staff and a search and rescue operation was underway. The fate of the other six people was not immediately known.

Other event reported on Fr media: a military column of armored vehicles and Tanks (100 to 200) crossed de Russian border toward Luhansk and Donetzk and hve been targeted on the way

But can’t find any other ref of that in other Media

Pentagon Delays Navy’s Carrier Drone Program

One source explained if the UCLASS is configured to carry the extra fuel needed for longer-endurance missions, then it will need to be built with a larger vertical signature and therefore have a less-stealthy design.

    Interesting ๐Ÿ˜‰

For this reason, advocates for more expansive requirements have favored planning for more aerial refueling of the drone in order to ensure that it is engineered with a stealthy, low-observable design.

Smaller but in greater nbr ?

I’ve not got much of an idea what you’re on about, Tomcat… But, yeah… Didgeridoo-Didgeridoo…

    So charming…
