TomcatViP i take your point about the aerodynamic configuration being tested. Do you think that the use of slats in that test is specific to A2A work or something they would look to clear regardless of the weapons carried?

To what extent will the A2A load interact with the CFTs over the fuselage? I mean, are they going to use user specific weaponry for this test or something more generic?

First, we have pictures of models of the Typhoon being tunnel tested with similar A2A load. So as Fedaykin and EELighthning mentioned, it could only be the reference study on which they want to plug in the new data.

Now, we have the slats being deployed, what point us to the low speed regime. CFT impart the flow around the tail with an influence on the AoA. So,they were probably validating that part of the regime that day using a reference config.

On the other end the pylon and the weapon on the outboard part of the wing are negatively affecting yaw stability at large AoA (what dictate max AoA). That part of flight domain might have needed some wind tunnel testing. This is where my remark started.

So either, they needed to compare the “new” CFT design with the old one.
Either they had a specific request from customer using AIM9 and going mainly A2A.

New missions in six states:

personally i think its to help Stormshadow carriage as much as anything else, and that is looming as far as the UK is concerned.

I more convinced that they are asserting AoA and turn rate in A2A config with CFT. Hence the slats.

All right, the Gripen debate is warming up. Despite having had many topics in the media about the Gripen acquisition the past two years (mostly against the aircraft), it is only now that the average Joe/Linda voter can start to really make his/her mind.
