Guys, “Speed is the new stealth” does not refer as speed being a substitute for stealth. The 60’s have shown that this can’t be true (in a sustainable manner).

It means simply that SPEED is the new way of ACHIEVING stealth. After decades of heavy emphasis on shaping, material and EM, speed is the new component of stealth.

But why SPEED? And why Mach 6(and not 5, 10 or 15)? Speed = alt. Fly fast and high you go.

Any airplane with a tail will have a big RCS when compared to a tailless airplane (i.e. flying wing).

Until the nice tailless plane start to bank. The way you flat turns is more important than having a tail or not. Those are fighters!

You hve certainly noticed that a great emphases of the design is in the high gimbaling capability. Something that makes senses only in the L-Band type of VLO target acquisition.

Let’s put it step by step:
a:you are flying in a T50 type of aircraft cruising fast and silently to avoid the stealth fighters of the opponent side
b: your passive radar are receiving some descreete signals pinged by a vlo.
c:Quick hard/Soft analysis give you a large cube of space where there is a probability that you hve a VLO with an estimation of its trajectory
d: you launch an AESA guided missile in that direction
e: once at close range, the missile light up its AESA and beam frenetically in all direction (hence the gimbals unit) as fast as it can (close range/high speed and perhaps low available power) to find a target
f: engine relight (my own hypothesis)
g: boom
h: you cross your fingers hoping that this time you didn’t shoot down your own side CCC plane with all the top brass generals inside.

Regarding the generation of power, I guess that a free spin turbine could provide enough power generation for the mission. Could be interesting to lean in that direction to see if some info surfaces.

Anyhow, the most scary thing that comes in mind with that technology is the baby Godzilla syndrome: if that is what they plan to do with their AAM, what the hell they hve in mind for the S500?
