Guess what !?! 😀
still in use here in Switzerland on a farm – the owner doesn’t want to part with it.
But one day…..

I always wondered what the rationale was for that. I mean, medium blue, over a European landmass. I love it, but who on earth dreamed it up?
The blue Mustangs is a myth that pops up again and a gain – the planes were in fact painted green, and the blue is a misinterpretation from the famous “Bottisham Four” photographs.
There are many former 361st FG members that swear that there never have been Mustangs painted blue !
This is an excellent example of one error going in print and then being copied and carried on through many publications thereafter, and something wrong suddenly is a well documented and proven fact.

as for operational Mustangs, i.e. carrying colors into combat, I think the 356th FG is neat:

Well
this one, a war-weary P-51D used as hack / liaison-aircraft by the 4th Combat Bomb Wing at Bury St Edmunds is one of my favourites…..
it shows a replacement cowling panel from a 4th FG machine

If there are any other 353rd FG pics that anybody has I for one would love to see them.

I would love to see that film “Star of Africa” that was made using Hispano-engined Hispanos!
Release date of DVD 31st January 2005 – check amazon.de and enter “Stern von Afrika”

Me! What could I possibly add?
BTW, according to Mrs DHFan, I’m always grumpy, not selectively.

Points to Martin…
Can you post the article or the illustration?
Cheers!
Afraid not !
did a bit of googling and happened upon this:

Sorry folks – but is there an ‘old’ IPMS UK fellow out there who might have this issue ?
Martin
Is this the thing from “Bent Throttles #2 – February 1997
“Pigeon From Hell” – 1/72 Would-be racer Hispano Buchon build report ?

So…. what about this racer??
a mistery to me
– at Reno September 1981, there was a HA-1112, race #5, of Howard Beal who didn’t make the finals; listed as 25th place; participated in air display and ground-looped on landing, suffering serious damage and also damaging another aircraft.
and in 1978, there is a Me-109G listed, race #109, of Don Whittington, nickname of a/c “Miss Florida II” – had mechanical troubles enroute to Reno and arrived late; and during a race it it dropped out in Lap 3 due to a broken connecting rod and didn’t finish.
And in the overall post-war unlimited air racing database, I have no entry with race #43 at all.
Back to square one……. *sigh*
