okay; let’s be seroius:
here’s the current situation on P-51’s (all marks)
Total Complete P-51 Survivors 283
P-51’s in airworthy condition 153
On Display (non-flying) 56
Repairs / Restoration 46
In Storage 24
Unknown 4
In addition to that there are a few ‘projects’ of incomplete status and / or composite ‘assemblies’.
This outnumbers the existing Ju-52’s quite a bit.
The thing is that I grew up with having Ju-52’s in the sky being a ‘normal thing’; and nowadays they fly over my appartment almost daily, sometimes in pairs or even three-ship formations. Living a stone-throw away from Dübendorf therefore is a good thing.
My 20th birthday actually I celebrated onboard HB-HOS during a long flight across Switzerland (gee, that’s 19 years in the past already …..).

Do a quick P-51 vs Ju52 count
easy
two P-51D’s vs. four Ju-52 here in Switzerland
so what ?
😀 😀 😀 :p :p :p
Martin
well a ju 52 is rare in its self
really ? :p
I believe there are two or three Ju52s in Switzerland? Would be nice to see them.
I often have 4 flying examples of them 10 minutes from where I live…..
Yep – Ju-Air from Dübendorf has 4 of them (all with original BMW 132 engines)
but I’d gladly swap for a Spitfire, a Hurricane, a Lancaster an…..
yes, a P-51D 😀 😀 😀

even as a Mustang maniac I stated that the Morane was my personal highlight at Berne. Both the Morane and the P-51D have not gone far over the last few years; the Morane was at La Ferté Alais once –
I guess it’s a safety issue here and considering the stretch of water to cross over to DX, this might be the blocker. In addition to that, the resources of the Swiss warbirds movement most probably are a bit thinner – also regarding logistics.
BTW: the newly restored D-3801 Morane had its first flight on 9th June 2000.
The only flying example of this type actually is a composite airframe, made up from the remains of three airframes:the fuselage of J-84, the wings of J-276 and other components of J-143. Restoration started in June 1994 at the premises of MSW Aviation owned by Max Vogelsang.
As from January 1995 the fuselage construction was rebuilt. October 1995 saw the provisional installation of a replacement engine. During 1996 the wings were reskinned and the landing gear was installed. The first rollout on its own wheels took place in October 1997 and starting from summer 1998 the first engine runs were done at Buochs airfield.
During winter 1999 a new radiator was manufactured and installed; the successful first flight was on 9th June 2000, and the airshow debut already was on 17th June 2000 at the International Airshow at Dübendorf Airbase near Zurich (I was there… 😀 😀 😀 ). This aircraft is registered HB-RCF. The 6-year restoration took over 12’000 man-hours.
Best regards

At this point it is difficult to say what is brewing for 2005 – Payerne this September is one of the biggest events we ever had around here ever –
it’s a bit early to say what is ‘on’ next year but news will surely posted here soonest.
Cheers
Martin
not really aerobatic
just cuban eights and barrel rolls – and the pilot is highly professional and the Morane is a though little fighter.
Martin
so its 2 hours to Duxford and 2.5 hours back to Basel
