Great shots there Brian, can i ask which camera you have, and what settings you used to get those props looking good – mine are always stationary looking. 😮

I have a Sony Alpha 100 and most of those photos were taken with a 70-300mm zoom lens. The shutter speed for the helicopters range from 1/200 to 1/320 and the faster moving aircraft range from 1/250 to 1/400. I start with a high shutter speed and on each pass I bring the shutter speeds down until the image starts to go out of focus. In amongst that lot I usually have a couple of good images. Hope that helps Jamie.

They were filling the fuel tank just in front of the cockpit and obviously had more in than expected and overflowed. Obviously not serious as the aircraft flew.

This was blue tacked to the inside of one of the windows in a pay booth.

Actually Phixer, that is a landing shot and I have no idea why it’s open.

The Tigercat will be departing these shores soon and I think the Beaufighter has been sold and part of the contract was to finish building it to flying condition.

On a normal day, the gates to the site are opened at 0930 with the museum opening at 1000. I don’t think the people at DX realise how well attended this event is going to be.

If you have the two days then do the two days. Saturday is going to be very crowded so I would stay outside, if the weather is nice, and then on Sunday you can have a leasurely walk around the hangers, without the crowds.
Alternatively, on Sunday there is an air display on at Old Warden which is only just up the road.
Brian
According to their web site, doors open at 1000 and the gates usually open at 0930 but if there is a big que of cars that may be thrown out of the window. As to what time the events start, no time has been published yet.

Typhoon + oldest Spitfire doing a ‘Heritage’ type flypast and Typhoon doing a solo display and all BBMF aircraft, including Chipmunks, will be there.
Pete: Duxford don’t even give a timetable for their airshows.

St Ives, Cambridgeshire has several.
Junior Sergeants, Aircrew Sergeants – universally known to everyone at Finningley as Plastic Sergeants 😀 😀 😀

It is in the paint shop bit of the restoration hanger with a screen of plastic sheeting around it.

I happened to be parked up eating my sandwiches at DX yesterday and saw RW386 for the first time go off on a test flight at about 14:00, I assumed it wouldn’t be up for very long but it flew off to the north and hadn’t reappeared when I left about 40 mins later.
I also saw another spitfire fly over earlier when I was having a meeting, due to the quietness of it’s engine and shape, I assumed it was a Mk V, I saw it being shoved into one of the small hangars near the main building after much shuffling about with the silver Rapide.
It was a lovely day yesterday compared to the last week, I assume it was possibly only the second flight of RW386, I had my camcorder with me, but never got the chance to use it.
There was a Spitfire flying around St Ives(Cambs) at about 15.00 yesterday afternoon that sounded a lot heavier than a MkV. It also did a beat up of RAF Wyton before departing back over St Ives towards the East.
