Now that first Vulcan shot is a top rank photo. The light on the waves and water behind it, together with the jet heat trail really sets it off. Where was this?

Following the suspension of ETS, China Eastern Airlines has agreed to buy 60 Airbus A320 aircraft. So, fortunately the backdown by the EU has come in time not to affect trade.

It could just be a pause to gain firmer support for a final push to put ETS in place permanently. Or, it could be a covert and quiet way of backing out of non-European ETS charges, as the opposition to it from China, India, and USA, is too strong and determined. At the end of the year, it will be surreptitiously dropped.

There is, of course, growing opposition to the notion of there being any problem with CO2 levels and global temperatures, which may be gaining ground politically. However, the temptation to keep all that lovely tax revenue coming into the cash desperate EU, might be a temptation too far.

Shot 18 is particularly good with the lead P40 prominent and the second one just seen at the back.

On the undercarriage issue, I heard that reported on the airband radio. Seems like they got the other Spitfire to take a look before terminating the display. He was reluctant to come in though.

If your theory is correct then why did the failure of 3 pitot tubes (the reasons for freezing are obvious)

So, were the pitots not of sufficiently high specification to cope with the particular freezing conditions? Or, was there a common failure which affected all three?

Steven -Airbus say that the probes in use exceeded the design specification for the aircraft. However at least one probe did ice up -the probes did work again on the decent and the aircraft itself sent a fault code to France .
There was a programme underway to replace probes with a different type- it doesnt indicate that the probes themselves didnt meet the specification -it tends to indicate to me that they found a better type.

The probes may well have exceeded the design specification, but that is no good if the specification was set at a too low standard, which could be the case here. Either that, or the probes were prone to the heating system failing.

There was a problem with faulty pitot tubes on A330/340 aircraft at the time, I think. They are supposed to heat up, yes.

Airbus say the pitot tubes were working within their design parameters..

Are you saying that the heating on the pitots was insufficient to prevent ice build up in the conditions encountered during that flight? That this was therefore an inherent design specification deficiency?

Why did the pitots ice-up? I thought that they were heated against icing.

Some very nice shots there! No Vulcan? Did it display in the end. I did the Friday show & the weather was fine. I was thinking that your shots are nice & sharp & full frame, were you standing at the end of the pier?

The Vulcan was there, and I got some shots, but I hope to do some more at Little Gransden tomorrow. I was in the centre of the flight line, so good views either way.

Yeah great shots. Was the Hawk airborne in time?

The Hawk arrived unexpectedly at 4pm, the radio announcers were telling us that the Vulcan was about to appear!

A nice collection of shots, particularly of the F-16. Shot #4 shows off the paint job splendidly.
