Just a quick Question, Would the RAFM ever part with any of its exhibits? i mean for the right amount of £££ and possibly an aircraft in return?
(just rather like the idea of an airworthy ME410 alongside Black 6 :diablo: )
my apologies 😮
just wasnt very awake when i wrote that lol
It seems that these chaps might be the ones that are restoring the above mentioned aricraft
read up mate, parkhouse aviation 🙂
on that same thread, if you scroll down you get this 🙂

I’m sure when standard the rear props are slightly shorter, but also a bit broader at the tip?
must have been me half asleep, you’re all right of course 😮
Yes the rear props do have a broader tip 🙂
im note 100% sure on your question RE aero, but i know that the rear prop blades on the shack at coventry Are about 4 inches longer, each blade than the ones at the front 🙂
cheers 😀
same lot, they wanted two of them 😀
I honestly had such a great day 🙂 a really super bunch of chaps.
That said, i was told by one of them that WL790 had been gutted by pima museum?! 😮
can anyone back this up?
WJ874 is indoors, bloomin’ great news! 😀
As for WK163, a team has been assembled to assess her current condition and act upon those findings accordingly, with a view to bringing her back to an airworthy state. (I believe WJ874 is included in this arrangement too)
I am merely the messenger on this and am passing on what little I have heard from contacts on the inside forming part of this team – don’t quote me on any of the above!
It’s all gotta be steps in the right direction though.
Great work on the Shack though, how many of us young’uns (ish!) can say “I changed a dirty great Griffon on a Shackleton today”? 🙂
Fantastic news 🙂
They both look in bloody good nick to be honest!!!
from what my father has told me, the engine that was removed has gone to dubai (not sure what for) The money that was gained from selling off the engine will go to getting the old girl looking and feeling a good bit better 🙂
Since the buyers wanted to see the engine working before they bought it, they bought one of the ones that was already “hooked up”
since the engine being fitted is a 0 hour one its better for the old girl in the long run 🙂
Edit: (from dad)
The engine was sold to a glass construction company who make structural glass for the tall buildings being built in Dubai. They have to test each glass sheet for wind pressure as the glass is part of the building structure
well cov is still a half hour drive for me, but as far as i can see a good portion of the chaps travel for several hours just to do some work on the old girl 🙂
finally getting all of the engine bearer bolts onwas just brilliant, to be honest 🙂
I shall definitely be going back down there to lend my hand to them again, best fun ive had in absolutely ages 😀

I have to say i did feel a little sorry for WK163 outisde on such a blustrous day 🙁 Id love to see her in the air again, any news on this btw?
Sorry to disappoint you all, but it was actually the Flug Werke 190 having a high power blast on our tie-down point by the M11 in the dark. Apparently the flames out of the stacks were awesome. Unfortunately some of us were grafting down in the ARC part of T2 and for once couldn’t get any pictures…
.. a very rough sounding Merlin or Griffon running up in the dark. Any ideas?
For shame, call yourself an enthusiast :diablo: mistaking a radial for a merlin! tisk tisk
The largest subs up until the Nuclear age, i always wonder why they did not use the planes as planned to destroy the Panama canal gates as that would have crippled the US navy build up after Pearl Harbour?
Good find though i will have to look out for that.
curlyboy
Just been looking at the Typhoon class subs

Jesus 😮
i think that the new carriers arent going to be nuclear powered is moronic to be quite honest.
I read somewhere something along the lines of “… does not currently provide a reactor large enough to power a vessel of its size”
Do what the usa does – USE TWO SUB REACTORS THAT ROLLS ROYCE ALREADY MAKE!
The longterm costs of having conventional carriers will far FAR outweigh the short term of building them as nuclear powered…
