Did I mention that, as well as having some bits of paper that say I can certify American and European registered aircraft, I also have some bits of paper that say I can fly American and European registered multi-engined aircraft.:D

Very sad though when one of your regular newapaper supporters publishes something like this…

    http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=156153&command=displayContent&sourceNode=156136&contentPK=19334141&moduleName=InternalSearch&formname=sidebarsearch

Admittedly this was before Christmas but I feel they have perhaps captured the laypersons perception.

I still worry for the long-term fallout for aviation preservation in the UK if it all fails!

That article i hope is a slow news day article, because if its not, it seems to be rather personal!

And now we are told that may well be it!!

Although money doesn’t grow on trees and the fund can’t be expected to just magically pay for the Vulcan, I feel the public were conned by believing we would get a year’s worth of flying out of her and that she would grace maybe two or three airshows in 2008 to allow the public an opportunity to see her in flight.

As far as I was aware the plan was to keep her flying for a year or two and that was what the donations were aiming towards.

If that was the only flight of the Vulcan and it will be mothballed again then that is a sad state of affairs and I believe the only people that truly gained from all that money are those that enjoyed working on her.

I wonder if I could get a Β£1 million grant for rebuilding a classic car and then only take it for a spin around the block before scrapping it again.

    CAMERON LOVE Lincoln

The Β£2.7 million of Lottery money has been wasted on this flying monstrosity just so that a few nerds can see it again.

It’s a disgrace. That money could have been spent on a lot more worthwhile causes.

    PETE LONGUE Lincoln

I understand the concerns voiced about the Vulcan (December 18) but it was well publicised that unknown and very expensive faults were found very late in the restoration.

I have contributed quite a bit over the years to this project anyone with any sense should realise that large aeroplanes do not fly for free. Funds have to be continually raised. Keep the faith!

    ALAN PATTERSON Sedgefield, Co Durham

at least the last chap to have commented seems to know what he’s about!

In Terms of the “what better causes the money could be spent on” argument, anyone up for the TSR.2 To Flight Group??? πŸ˜€ *Deadly Serious* pretty sure i could source an original pilot too, maybe not too many hours left on him though :diablo:

im not knocking their acheivement in the slightest, the fact that she flew is a fantastic achievement and one that really amazed me, however from the amount of money it has cost and the mount of money predicted to be needed to run her, we may be able to conclude that she’s just too large and too complex for a civillian operation to run?

may I join you in your hole, by asking the same question, where has it all gone? surely the whole Β£6+million hasnt been spent entirely on the restoration!!! coul someone please explain to me as i have a complete lack of understanding concerning finances concerned with restoring aircraft πŸ™‚

yes to the rectractable visor, similar in principle to concorde, it just made landing her easier. with regards to the radiation symbol, i think if you look closer its more like a symbol from a crash test car, though i have no idea what it actually is. I totally agree, its an astonishingly beautiful aircraft πŸ™‚

why is it that such a unique aircraft hasn’t been made a priority and been restored and put on display??? there seem to be quite a few unique examples of german aircraft rusting away in american warehouses (no offence to you guys)

for the same reason as enola gay, i would nominate “Bockscar” as well as enola gay. I would love to see them both together, the only two aircraft in the world to have used nuclear weapons in anger. On a more sombre note, these two aircraft killed the most people in one go. It would still be none the less a breathtaking exhibit πŸ™‚
