In my opinion the date for the first flight of PAK-FA in this video. Can somebody translate the conversation about it?

    Nice find, medal.

Beautiful Correspondent “…now that the fighter of the 5th Generation is being established, will it be a totally new [type]?”

Mikhail Pogosyan ” the principles of the aircraft are totally new/different [to the preceding 4th Gen. fighters] it will be an aircraft invisible/LO to the radars of the enemy, an aircraft constructed of new [polymer/composite] materials consisting of up to half [the airframe], it will have new systems of control with all systems integrated…it will be [essentially] a flying computer.
It will give the pilot capabilities which hitherto were not achievable by 4th gen. aircraft. It will have greatly integrated information systems with other unmanned [5G] aerial vehicles (i.e it will be NetCentric
    )”

BC “Last question, we’ve already seen the US F-22 Raptor, when will our reply be? when will we see our example at Le Bourget?

MP “I think that our answer will be soon, we’re (currently) working on it, it’s too early to say if we’ll see it @ Le Bourget 2011- we’ll see, will our answer be seen in 2009- I believe so.Where will it be?I think it’s not so important, it will be in Russia, our answer will be revealed in Russia…”

N.B. Native Russian speakers feel free to correct any errors.

    Conflicting reports, as ever:

Sukhoi’s 5th-gen fighter takes shape, nears flight
    By: Stephen Pope

    June 16, 2009
    Aircraft

Sukhoi’s long-anticipated fifth-generation multirole fighter is nearing the start of flight trials as work continues on the prototype aircraft, the famed Russian aircraft builder’s chief executive confirmed at the Paris Air Show yesterday.

Sukhoi CEO Mikhail Pogosyan predicted the world will soon know much more about the new fighter, referred to internally as the T-50. “Let’s wait until next year, perhaps at the Farnborough airshow, to learn more about our fifth-generation fighter,” Pogosyan said. “Now we are just stating that we are working on the prototype and getting prepared for flight trials.” Observers predict the new fighter could be rolled out as early as this summer.

Russia is developing the new-generation Sukhoi to compete with the U.S. F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, the world’s first fifth-generation fighters. Eventually the new airplane will replace the MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker fighters in the Russian air force and be exported to other countries. Sukhoi is sharing development costs and engineering for the project with India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.

Pogosyan said Sukhoi has an $8 billion order backlog for its fighters and controls about 20 percent of the world export market. He noted the firm is preparing to add a third Su-35 prototype this month to the flight-test program for its last fourth-generation fighter (referred to by Sukhoi as generation 4++ ). Su-35 deliveries are slated to start in 2011

My first reaction was exactly the opposite: “gosh this is VERY different from a Flanker”.
At first glance I would say at least 10% of what I can see is either composite or composite-framed materials…The framing and wielding itself is also totally different as compared with your “normal” Flanker.

Fwiw, here’s the ’29KUB for comparison, I’d expect the ’35BM to exceed composite usage as %age by weight

The (intact) welded seams on ‘904’ denote electron-beam welding, as riveted joints would have buckled/cracked under the high temperatures.

Conclusion: India can either co-develop PAK-FA and adapt it for their purposes or they can pursuit MCA with European partners (Dassault, Aeritalia, CASA, EADS, BAe?).

The IPRs for the PAK-FA would be air-tight, so very little ‘cross-over’ tech could be incorporated for the MCA (unlike Su-30MKI).

However, international partners could probably be easily found to break the F-35’s supposedly affordable 5G monopoly on the market, outside Europe S.Korea, Japan perhaps?..

    …and wind-tunnel testing @ TsAGI- irony of ironies 😉

    I agree with flex, 1:6 to 1 translates 16 to 10.

But I doubt that the Su-35 will enter service with yesterdays R-77s/73s, which means the study is flawed.

So, clearly my “thread” has merit………..:D

First brush-up on your basic numeracy, then I’ll decide whether your analogy of a refurbished/upgraded second-hand carrier to the most important Russian (& Indian) defence project ever, deserves any ‘merit’.

[COLOR=”blue] Using Ponzi scheme selling methods with not much product to show for it isn’t helping things. It does show though that even in the day of the “information age”, there are still enough gullible people to depend on. [/COLOR]

JSF – Dutch Waffle Disease Spreads
Posted by Bill Sweetman at 5/27/2009 7:28 AM CDT

Following the Dutch decision to defer final selection of a new fighter until 2012 – the other side of the country’s next elections – Denmark appears to be following suit, and a political controversy appears to be building in Norway over the government’s damning dismissal of the rival Saab Gripen NG in November.

Denmark’s defense minister Soren Gade told parliamentary auditors last week that the country would not sign a contract for a new fighter until 2012, and then only at a fixed price, according to national news agency Ritzau. Denmark is still looking at the Gripen NG and the Boeing Super Hornet as well as the JSF.

Meanwhile, in Norway, the right-wing Progress Party is now criticizing its “red-green” coalition rivals for the November decision, saying that it was no more than a rubber stamp for a decision that had already been taken. “The government fooled the Swedes and the Norwegian people into believing that this was a real competition”, party founder Carl Hagen has said.

In upcoming hearings, the Progress Party faction hopes to send the JSF decision back to the government, calling for a “much better and more thoroughly worked out and more responsible decision”. The party may hope to form an alliance with the socialist SV party, which also favored a non-US solution but was steamrollered by its center-left coalition partners in November.

None of this means that the nations are likely to buy Gripens or Hornets any time soon, and the JSF remains the leading contender as long as it lives up to its promises. However, it should be remembered that none of these countries was even considered in play for potential rivals until 2007, and that all three were key targets for Lockheed Martin’s proposed multi-year, fixed-price procurement plan. [:D].
