Somehow, I doubt that MiG would, out of the goodness of their hearts, offer a significant upgrade to aircraft already ordered without wanting anything for it.
This is about getting MiG into much better financial shape (especially after the Algerian debacle) before its unification with the UAC next year.
The econ. of scale achieved by the the RuNavy order of the ‘K’ will stabilise the IN ‘K’ prices, this will have greater effect regards costing Zhuk-AE units, you seriously don’t think the production ‘AE’ is going to be binned in favour of the mech.scan do you? Besides, this is probably Phazotron’s last chance at staying an independent radar house.
I won’t go into the dynamic of state enterprises v. private sector, but think how keeping F-22 production line open will save jobs, then imagine MiG-29K/35 (with Zhuk-AE as the central selling point) will keep RAC MiG solvent in these trying times, hence the intervention of Super-Pogo.
A production standard MiG-35 is scheduled to fly in May, and it’ll probably square-up nicely to EADS’s finest. You know that as well as I.
…does not compute with my understanding of informative input in this tread..
Agreed, and neither does ‘Side-Car’.
I hope they don’t fail in the field trials. 🙂
His Imperial Majesty Mikhail Pogosyan paid Mr. Bindra to shoot those tyres out. Damn, that guy’s good!!
Another ill omen, USS?;)
Got some good news & bad news.
The good news is IN MiG-29Ks will have Zhuk AE AESAs @ unit cost of $46.25m (~40% cheaper than the SH).
The bad news is it’s reported by Reuben F. Johnson.

India, Russia to work on advanced fighter plane
Vladimir Radyuhin
MOSCOW: India will join Russia in practical work to develop the fifth-generation fighter plane later this year after the two sides sign research and development contracts.
“We have made good progress since concluding an inter-government agreement in 2007 for the joint development and production of the fifth-generation fighter aircraft and are ready to sign detailed contracts this year for implementing the programme,” said Mikhail Pogosyan, CEO of the Sukhoi aircraft building company, which is the chief contractor of the fighter on the Russian side.
Sukhoi partners with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the project.
The fifth-generation advanced multi-role fighter is expected to begin flight tests in Russia before the end of 2009 and go into mass production in both countries in 2015. Russia and India are planning to build two versions of the plane for their Air Forces each — a single-seater and a two-seater.
Speaking to The Hindu ahead of the Aero India-2009 air show, Mr. Pogosyan said the Russian and Indian versions of the new fighter would closely match each.
“We have now reached a broad agreement with our Indian partners on technical requirements for the new aircraft. The Russian and Indian versions will be very closely integrated. This is extremely important for bringing down production costs.”
Even though India joined the project five years after it was launched in Russia, Mr. Pogosyan said HAL and other Indian contractors would be able to make a 50 per cent input as envisaged by the inter-government agreement.
“We are confident our Indian partners will contribute their technologies to enhance the plane’s capabilities. Considering that the programme will continue for over 50 years, there will be many opportunities to balance our contributions.”

PM Putin visits RAC MiG (pics):
or are they developing some sort of F/A/E/S/C-18 ĂĽberhornet
(like this model i found )
Any word on the Super-Hornet Block 3? Is it a serious project?
The MiG-35 will have the considerable resources of UAC (including Sukhoi) behind them.
The Russians will push for a split order (probably at least 40/60), now if you note the considerable Indo-Russian Defence ties used as ‘bargaining weight’ (i.e. Nerpa, INS Vikramaditya, T-90, FGFA, MLTA, Su-30MKI ‘blk4’, BrahMos2 etc.)- I think they’ll probably get their way.
I’m going 60% SH blk2, 40% MiG-35 (imho of-course, but what a combo!!:)).
RAC MiG Chief Designer Vladimir Barkovsky has stated (at a press-conference @ Bangalore today) a production representative MiG-35 (2-seater) is in final assembly at the Sokol plant and will have it’s first flight in May, in preparation for the MMRCA trials.
? What do you exactly want to tell me with that?
Because if the PakAF order NG’s SABR retrofits, then the ‘IN’ will have greatly diminished advantage.
Best go with the SH blk2, ’cause non of India’s potential adversaries are likely to have (or afford) a comparable a/c anytime soon. Rafale & Eurofighter are just not up to the strike role, no-matter what the brochure dribble. Savvy?
It’s derived from the blk 60 no doubt, but there is a reason why it’s called F-16IN not F-16E/F blk 60 ;).
Pfffft…that swerve guy again .
I trust the AN/APG-80 will still retain a significant performance edge over NG’s SABR F-16 retro-fit. Does ‘IN’ get ‘Sniper’ pod?
There’s only 1 aircraft @ the show that’s trials ready- ‘Super-Hornet’ YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!!WOOOOOOO-HOOO!!
Ante_ you can’t have the F-16IN as a fave. It’s not allowed. Besides, that’s an imposter (like the MiG-35;))
Where’s the Rafale? Do 4 Eurofighters turning-up increase their chances 4-fold? I like this schoolyard logic.
You like your MIGs don’t you !
I think if MMRCA is split, the ’35 has a good chance.
Ante_ go down to Sukhoi’s newly opened New Delhi offices and ask His Imperial Majesty Emperor Pogosyan what tricks he’s got up his sleave, try to xerox a picture of the PAK-FA…….and don’t gawp at the Ladies, there’s a good chap.
