I think especially the Brazlian will put the biggest disadvantage of the Suchoi 35 in perspective: its excessive weight and size without any noticeable gain in performance.
The RMAF operates 0 Super Hornets.
Hmmm…disadvantages(?) like range/time-on-station, superior radar, supercruise, weapons load etc.etc. besides I wasn’t aware that “excessive weight and size” were pre-requisites for the finest 4th generation fighter design- acknowledged by all university engineering depts. worth their salt.
Are you privy to info the RMAF weren’t during their evaluation?
The RMAF consider the Su-30MKM as superior to the Super-Hornet, and the SH has considerably better avionics kit than the Eurocanards. I guess we’ll have to wait for the production representative prototype #06 for a better picture, but if the Su-35 fancies its chances against the F-35, then it’s ‘goodnight Eurocanards’.
Sens, the ’35BM/SM2 is significantly better than the ‘Super-Flanker’ the Eurocanards were designed to counter, some 20 yrs ago. In the meantime watch for export orders as they all go head-to-head, Brazil’s FX-2 tender in particular.
Austin, I’ll elaborate- Pogosyan’s saying PAK-FA will not only exhibit characteristics of LO (‘malozametnost’), such as internal weapons carriage, but the aircraft is ‘malozametnost’ (stealth) i.e. in all its characteristics.
Coming from Sukhoi’s #1 Chief Big-Wig- the statement can be taken at face value:
Check this out: interview with M. Pogosyan by Russian Journalist yesterday at Zhukovsky-
journalist- “In principle this [Su-35] is an excellent aircraft,… so what does it lack that requires the need (to establish) a fifth generation (fighter)?
M. Pogosyan- [descends into Su-35 brochure speak, then] “…we were not able to realise (in the Su-35) all the technologies that are incorporated into a fifth generation aircraft- firstly there is the internal carriage of weapons, not simply to realise the characteristics of LO (stealth), but this IS an LO aircraft…..obviously [with the Su-35] we were not able to fully utilise the use of composites in construction [as per 5G]….5G will have a service life to 2040-50”
Afaik, this is the first time M. Pogosyan has admitted that PAK-FA is an all-out stealth fighter.
Su-35BM makes first public flight —–>
… be interesting if both the BM and the F-22 are present at Farnborough this year and both pull of displays L;)
Highly unlikely to see BM at any airshow outside Russia in the short term, it’s the only one currently in the flight-test programme (2 more join later this year), with only 20-odd flights. Shame ’cause it looks damn awesome!!
Didn’t spot any Chinese officials at the demo…maybe ‘J-11B damage’ is irreparable. Initially sceptical, I’m really starting to warm to the BM 🙂
Su-35 demos supercruising ability (?):
I just realized that this is the Su-34 thread. Otaku’s post mislead me to believe we are talking about the Su-35.
How dare you take this thread off-topic UAZ, shame on you!!
Check out the Mi-28N btw:

Official Sukhoi Company news confirms PAK-FA prototype(s) are in final assembly.
This plane (only) was sanctified in the name of Saint Nicholas Chudotvorets – this is his image.
So my idea of setting up a special group of ‘Su-34 Cheerleaders’ might be deemed inappropriate, huh?
