I dont think that the MRCA project could get killed…

I hope that with the IAF’s Fifth Gen fighter going to the Sukhoi Bureau, we’ve appeased the Russians enough for us not to have to be saddled with the MiG-35 as well just to keep good terms with them.

If you’re right then it’s a no-brainer. It’s got to be the Eurofighter Typhoon, currently second-best only to the F-22.
EADS has more to offer Indian industry than anyone else in the 50% offset and besides, the Europeans are less sanctions impulsive than the Americans.

As for AESAs for Su-30s- I’d bet at least half, if not all, IAF Su-30MKIs will have AESAs by 2020, and I’d bet that was a proviso for the Malaysians when they procured the MKM (over the Super-Hornet).

the MRCA is going to be a reality. face it. its a fact that Indian MoD acquisitions occur at glacial speeds and we all know it, but the fact is also that the IAF has moved mountains to get them to even post the RFPs, so there is NO chance that it would let the MRCA competition be called off.

It’s the ‘glacial speeds’ that may yet kill the MMRCA. But don’t despair! Rejoice!!:)

I’m sure upgraded Mirage 2Ks, MiG-29s (to near ’35 standard), AESA equiped Su-30s can hold on ’till 2020 (at the latest).

If true this really is a good step! I have heard otherwise that the MMRCA would go on but with reduced numbers since India is buying extra Su-30MKi’s.

Which isnt so bad either! Su-30MKI IV would be a juicy concept

An addenda to my earlier post:

I would expect Def.Min Antony to arrive in Moscow with some ‘counter-arm- twisting’ measures of his own-, INS Vikramadita debacle, Su-30MKI cost escalations, Ayni air base lease- which he may attempt to tie-in with the PAK-FA programme.

As for MMRCA, the tender has come so late in the day, I would be astounded if it went ahead in it’s present form as per RPF. I would expect Moscow to offer Su-30 upgrade packages (AESA, 117Cs) for a follow-on order, as a stop-gap for PAK-FA. The billions that would be saved from MMRCA could then be allocated to indigenisation/customisation of IAF PAK-FAs as there won’t be full ToT. Incidently, that would be the end of the MiG-35, but maybe Indian co-operation on ‘Skat’ could result?

    Just my thoughts…

Reports from Delhi indicate Def.Min Antony will sign the PAK-FA ‘co-development’/co-production deal next week in Moscow.

Considering his comments last week on Russian IPRs and the need for indigenisation/customisation of weapons systems & the slipping in-service date (and obsolescence of the MMRCA) in a decade- may sound the tender’s death knell.

Hopefully common sense will prevail, Jai Hind!!

And i know about the 787 rollout , was their in person !!

Why are you asking me? those words aren’t mine! forget officialdom, US Navy sentiments are well known by mainstream US media, nevermind defence circles.
All quotes, RAAF reports are online (some req. subscription), I’m not here to spoonfeed.

“ZAP ZAP” the person you quoted is correct , take out the Stealth , Integrated Avionics , and most other 5th gen. features and the F-35 is nothing much more then a flanker or fulcrum .

Also to the person who you quote saying the SH is better i would love to ask him in which aspect ? Drag ? Speed? Cruise speed? Signature? Stealth? Avionics? Radar? Survivability? Lethality? A2g? A2a?

Sorry, Raptorman, you can put your cape away, I’m with the US Navy & RAAF on this one. Nevermind the SH (of which I am a ‘fanboy’), it’s the comment “…glorified AV8” that should be of concern.

US & Australian Defence Select Committees burnt their F-35 brochures a long time ago, I suggest you do the same.

They’ve rolled-out the ‘Dreamliner’ by the way.

    Ooh here’s 2 more US Navy big-wigs:

“…the USMC might be thrilled with their new toy, but we [US Navy] neither need nor want a glorified AV8…”

and “…it’s ironic that the stop-gap between the A-12 and F-35 [F-18SH] is considered superior to both!!”

as for the RAAF- that would require an entirely new thread, maybe entitled “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, -not this fanboy one.

Maybe that should be the Lightnings byword “BRING IT ON”. :diablo:

Nice response time, how coordinated too…

OK, which senior US Navy analyst recently said “…the F-35 may the first of it’s kind for systems integration…but as a pure fighter it’s no better than the latest Fulcrums & Flankers”?

Speaking of ‘zap zap’ i hear the F-35 might even get cleared for directed energy weapons at some point. If this happens i expect MiG to roll out an X-wing clone soon after 😀

Er, jbritchford, the ‘Lightning’ barely generates enough power for a sterile flight profile at the moment. So you can forget about the ‘plug n’ play’ DEWs.
But at least they gave you source code!! YAAAAY!!

I was just wandering if the US Navy’s got cold-feet over the F-35, much like the Australians? -’cause Aussie Defence Select Committe analysis of the ‘Lightning’ is truly fascinating.

I’m a little disappointed from the “brand new” Su-35 – i expected a nice, smooth surface , but there are a lot of rivets everywhere 🙁 .

It’s not practical or economically viable to electron beam weld the large number of airframe panels of the Su-35. I’m sure the next gen. will meet your expectations.

…now radr waves bounce 2 times before reaching intake and 2 more on return and weak echo exits from intake now to hide it 99,9999%:diablo: it should be narrow so the signal bounces 7,8 times but to get airflow it must be wide then,so congrats to amerikans their x-45 seems right on the spot, while skats look like its going mach 3 and not very stealth.sincerly i expected much more

RPG, you’re aware that MiG developed the F-35 style DSI for the JF-17Thunder?

S-ducted subsonic stealth intakes pose considerable CFD design headaches, probably why the ‘Neuron’ progress is so painfully slow- especially when they’re dithering over 1 engine or 2.

The bi-furcated duct is simply MiG’s preferred solution to the problem. Besides, the intake walls will be coated with RAM (see Su-35 intakes) & no-doubt other typically Russian solutions.
It will be interesting to see Sukhoi’s preferrence, but I don’t doubt their ability- especially the people at 2TsNII.

Very interesting comments you made on the bombing of the Chinese Embassy.
