Nice to know it’s doing the rounds, but without wanting to rake up old tribal problems this side of the Irish Sea, does anyone know if it’s coming to Belfast at all? There are no BA services to BFS anymore, BHD only has a BA MAN service it could possibly operate on (though I’m not sure about a 757 getting in/out of BHD with any kind of payload), yet I’m sure the BBC would want to see it coming to the kiddie viewers in Northern Ireland.
Anyone got any positive (i.e. confirmed) info on whether we’ll see it here or not?
Superb shots – clear, sharp and very well composed. More please …..

Vickers Viscount from Nutts Corner in 1963 (before Aldergrove/Belfast International took over as the main civil airport for Northern Ireland) initially going to the Isle of Man. Unfortunately fog over the island meant we couldn’t land, so we pressed on to Speke (now John Lennon Airport, Liverpool), and were put up in the Adelphi Hotel for the night before being flown back to the Isle of Man the next morning. Now that was service …. 🙂

Fantastic selection there Skymonster, makes me want to prise open the filing cabinet and hunt out my oldies myself. Those were the days when MEA 707s and Burlington/Emery (I think) DC-8s were regulars at the cargo side of LHR, and pax flights were operated by Aeroflot IL62s, CSA Tu154s, TWA 727s on feeder flights, and Iberia even had the odd 747 operating to Madrid. 🙂
I can remember too using MAN to get to Sheffield every other week in 1987 (from BHD) on Eurocity Express Dash-7s, and seeing the “new” Air Atlantique DC-6 G-SIXC sitting on the apron. What a sight, and what a sound when it taxyed out ahead of us.

More excellent photos. Well done. I’ve PM’d you with a query about your shots if you don’t mind.

Excellent shots – what is spotting like generally around BFI? I take it it’s tolerated ok, and that there are some well known (approved?) spotting areas?

Skymonster,
Can you let us know what scanner make/model you were using (and at what resolution) to get such good images from K64?
Thanks

After all, in the end showing the photos is just one big ego trip! Look what I made, you gotta love me!
I really MUST take exception to this statement. I know I’ve just posted five threads, all containing shots taken at Dublin, and that this perhaps was the trigger for this particular thread, but it is by no means “one big ego trip”.
The photos were posted for two reasons – firstly there aren’t many photos seen on the forum from Dublin (mostly PIK, MAN, EDI and GLA), and secondly, this particular day was a very busy one at DUB with lots of extra charter flights taking place to transport the French rugby supporters back home after Saturday’s international. I thought the members would appreciate seeing the variety of aircraft in DUB that day.
Throwaway comments like this one can be very hurtful to those of us who do contribute to the forum (hopefully in a meaningful way), but if this is a general view, and my postings have caused problems for the webmaster or mods, with relation to storage space etc., then I would prefer my posts to be removed by them in order to preserve the harmony of the forum.
