If there had been a total electrical failure, would this have affected cabin lighting, or does this operate off some other circuit for safety (evacuation) reasons? I haven’t heard any reports from the pax about the interior lighting going off, or any other comments about a lack of electrical power in the cabin.
For pure, long term stench appeal, try a leaky milk carton/bottle on the floor behind the driver’s seat. During cold periods (say winter time or in the morning when it’s icy), set heater controls to highest, blow hot air around feet, wait for the most repulsive smell imaginable, and curse yourself for not bothering to sponge the mess up when it happened. Only sure way of solving it – take all the seats out and replace the carpet, and pray you can drive with all the windows down for several weeks. Those silly deodorant trees wither and die in minutes when putrid milk is around. 😮

Steady on there ….. Let’s not get too carried away about this. It’s just a master plan in accordance with the wishes contained in the Government’s White Paper. It contains nothing to get excited about in the short term – just sound strategic thinking and planning. Even mid-term (2015), talk of rebuilding the terminal is 9 years away, and anything can happen in that timeframe. Let’s not forget that talk of a business park, as well as a maintenance centre, and free trade zone, have been on the go for many many years, with not a lot to be seen anywhere. And what happened to T2 mentioned a while back?
Let’s just see what happens. Better to plan and grow sensibly, than expect (and do) too much too quick too soon. Nevertheless, good luck to all concerned, and let’s hope the plans all come to fruition.
I am I right in thinking that many of CO’s regional european destinations from EWR originate as US west coast departure point flights ?
Might well be true. Would appreciate if anyone with more insight than I can advise where the EWR – BFS flight originates.
Just to add as well that this morning’s CO arrival is delayed by 50 minutes again, and the AB arrival at BHD is also delayed again by 35 minutes. Of the two, I’d worry more about the one hour sector STN flight being delayed on an almost daily basis by around 50% of its scheduled flight time. This can’t be good.
The EZY delays are routinely reported as well, but they’re not a problem in themselves – they’re just point to point sectors, and don’t link in to connecting flights and multi sectors like CO and AB. To be fair all delays over about 30 minutes are reported – there’s no bias or preference towards any airline that I’ve heard over the years.
Interesting to see it used reverse thrust on only the two inboard engines
looks as if all BHD flights will be F100 operated for the foreseeable future
Ah well. Fokker 100s it is then ….. Sounds like a plausible reason for the lack of 737s, though it’s a shame. I can just picture a wingleted one disappearing over the city off 22. 🙂
Great to see this one up and running. Shame about this morning’s dreadful weather though. 🙁 Was that the reason for the short delay or did they announce anything else? Any “ceremony” for the inaugural flight ex BHD?
Am looking forward to using them in October for BHD-STN-VIE (STN-VIE with NIKI), by which time they’ll hopefully be using the 737-700s to STN.
Nice shots BFS – shame about the lack of variety there these days – Easycity or what ??? The odd baby, Jet2 and holiday charter, and lots and lots of easys. Still, it keeps the pax numbers up.
Renfrew – Yep closed down now and the Aviation Museum moved out – they wont say where to but my money is on newly opened Enniskillen Airport!
Cryptic message unless you were responding publicly to a PM, but if you are referring to the Ulster Aviation Society’s collection which was housed at Langford Lodge, then you’ve just lost your money. It’s definitely not at Enniskillen.
No, the poll was on UTV Live actually, and it was just that – a poll, not a census. Not everyone voted or had to vote, it was purely a vox pop, which I’m sure extended way beyond east Belfast in general and the Short Strand in particular …..
As someone born and bred in east Belfast, within kerosene-smell of what is now City airport, in the days when it was still the naval yard and Shorts Belfasts were being built across Victoria Park from my house, and old enough to remember going to watch George play for United and Northern Ireland back in the very early ’70s, I think this is an excellent way of commemorating George’s talent as a footballer and ambassador for Northern Ireland sport.
It’s all too easy to everyone to lambast his waste of life, his alcoholism and the other aspects of his life he would rather have pushed to the back of his mind. And of course there aren’t too many people in the world who are whiter than white, but we remember him for his footballing brilliance, his immense talent and the fact he made this little corner of the world proud, at a time when we were experiencing trouble and discrimination many of you younger forumites can’t even begin to imagine (or probably remember either).
A local TV poll tonight gave it a 72% approval from some 4500 people who called in over the hour-long period of the programme. I would say that’s probably a fair reflection of province-wide opinion. Personally I feel it was always going to be difficult to get the “right” name once the decision had been made to do it. BHD suffers from two problems – one common with all airports, i.e. you really need to include the name of the locality it serves – in this case Belfast; and the other being the need for BHD to differentiate itself from BFS. Hence any name was going to need to include the words ‘Belfast’ ‘George Best’ and ‘City’. Not much scope really for too many variations on that, so far as I can see.
I wish it well, and while being a local, I’ll probably still refer to it as the City (or frequently as I do ‘the Harbour’). A great tribute to George, and one I suspect he himself might well have approved of.
FuturePilot flybe naming a jet after George had absolutely nothing to do with this decison. The Best family have been in discussions with a number of parties interested in remembering George since his death.
Excellent news for Belfast. Let’s hope the passengers are there to support it though ….. Competition will be tough.
My two are both from Dublin in March this year, on the day after the Ireland v France rugby international.
The first is Air France 747-400 F-GITD, and the second is Mytravel 757 G-JALC
