Really doesnt make any sense to be honest, I would have wanted them to get more boeing, that’d be their best option.

Makes no sense at first chlance. A 2nd look reveals the possilbe reason for it. The Skyteam alliance. CSA is a member of that airline and the largest European member of Skyteam is AF which has a large amount of airbusses. Alitalia is still rumoured to join Skyteam and they have more airbusses still.

As for CSA being totally Boeing… false. CSA has 3 or 4 A310s as well. Admittedly not the youngest of planes, but still going strong!

Why is it that whenever Airbus wins an order some people immediately claim that the order is obtained through political pressure and/or subsidizing?

I’m afraid I have spreadsheets of all the aircraft I’ve seen (recording the first time where and when). All transcribed from my notebooks over the years. There is a star next to the ones I’ve flown on!

Same here… except I enter them always regardless of whether I have seen them before or not. I all enter them in an Acces spread sheet. It takes a bit of time, but after a while it is just necessary to keep track of my photos.

There are a few KLM planes that go easily over 30 entries now.

AFAIK MK only had 1 747, so the one pictured above must have been the one that crashed today.

The reg is 9G-MKJ according to http://www.airdisaster.com

“We haven’t had any problems since we’ve been operating (out of Ghana) since 1994,” Ametepe said, when asked about the company’s safety record.

That is bull. The 747 that crashed today replaced a 747 that crashed 3 years ago in Nigeria. Before that MK also crashed two DC-8s, one in 1992 and one in 1996.

    DC-8 15/02/1992
    DC-8 17/12/1996
    B747 27/11/2001
    B747 14/10/2004

RIP to the crew. I hope this is the last crash they have.

As soon as we have the minimum amount of information for the case to be admitted

This word minimum is somewhat suspect. It makes the whole lawsuit seem more like a fishing expedition to get as much as they can.

I saw that as well, the ‘s-Hertogenbosch scramble. Not sure what it was as it was at a high altitude, but it looked like a DC-10. No report on Dutch media so most likely an excercise with one of the Air Force KDC-10s.

I remember stories of an Alitalia DC9 being lost over the Mediterranean to a missile, alledgedly US. Is there any substance to that one ?

You are refering to a crash of an Itavia DC-9 of the coast of Italy. You can get some details and a load of links on this site. There still is no answer what happened other than that the plane broke up mid-air.

NATO has a radar station nearby, but has been unwilling to hand over the information. In fact, NATO has been death silent about the whole of the matter other than the usual ambiguous bull we have grown to love from militaries worldwide.

The most likely cause is that NATO planes shot it down by accident. Two Libyan fighters where at the time intercepted by 3 Italian, 1 French and 1 US fighters. Warships where in the area as well. The Libyans where flying close to the Itavia jet to mask their radar signature and make them harder to hit without damaging the Itavia.

It would appear that the Libyan planes got fired upon. Another option could perhaps be a mid-air collision with the Itavia and one or both of the Libyans. However, I seem to recall that this theory was discredited.
