That cooling system has been introduced by Airbus, not Boeing. You must realise by now that revolutionary changes are only done by Airbus these days. 🙂
I agree that STN does not have character, like old airports such as LHR and LGW. Nonetheless, I find travelling through STN to be a nicer experience than through LHR or LGW. Only disadvantage is that it is quite far away from London.
Great shots!
At the risk of asking the obvious, what camera are you now using?
Peter, the extra capacity would come from the fuselage stretch.
Sounds obvious enough! I’ve had a looooong day and an even longer week (kind a obvious as well come to think of it :))!
…The spaces would be sold for premium prices to passengers who would occupy economy seats on the main deck by Door 4 for take-off and landing…
This approach won’t give the 747 more capacity though. It says that during takeoff/landing the passengers in the bunks will have to be seated in economy again. There they can be safely strapped in, and in case of an emergency can easily get to (emergency) exits.
All this does is add another bit of luxury to the 747 that will be available at a premium. Will this be available only to 1st class passengers?
What would the added weight be of this idea?
Just one idea though, what about moving all galleys, toilets etc to the attic. This would open some space in the main cabin where seats can be placed. That’s another, what, 30 seats?
What about this little tidbit that seems to have ben sneaked in:
…Boeing is now extending these to create a series of ‘Sky Suites’ for passengers which could run for virtually the entire length of the stretched 747’s main fuselage aft of the ‘hump’…
Would they really stretch it? It has been proposed quite a few times before.
You will have to get yourself a free account. Logging on can take a while because there are only a limited number of nodes. Just refresh loads of times till you get in.
allez, gefeliciteerd he sjefke! 😉
(goede poging Vlaams, n’est ce pas?)
you might want to give Nationwide Airlines a ring. From november they start flights between Gatwick and Johannesburg. Being a new operator on the route they will probably offer great introductionary fares, but for now their website won’t let you book flights to/from London.
another question, the prices quoted are they per person or for the whole family? If that’s for the whole family it seems quite a good deal!
Child Selsport, would he/she be under 11 or above?
links don’t work here either. I’ll leave my sig as it is for a few days, but if this problem continues I’ll modify it.
Does anyone have clarification on the subsidies allegedly being offered to the non-US partners involved with the 7E7 programme?? I don’t despise any manufacturer but I just thought I’d ask.
All I know of is to Japanese companies that get subsidies similar to those offered to Airbus. That is low/zero interest loans.
Actually, it was agreed between the US and the EU that up to 30% (or thereabouts) of plane development costs could be subsidised. Airbus is right on that mark. Boeing is far from it. So Boeing is obviously complaining. What I do not understand though is that they are complaining at Airbus when they should complain at the US government. The US government agreed on the deal and thereby (at the very least) implied that it was going to support US industry as well.
Will $5000 be enough for you? If so you might want to try this thread for a new job.

Cool shots. I am surprised to see that BAC-111, is it still in use or parked?
