Virgin Atlantic is replacing their A340-300s. They could send some of them to Virgin Blue.

Great photos. Looking forward to seeing it at Farnborough.

What are those silver lines under the cockpit? Some sort of test equipment?

On second though, it is fake. The tail is curved alright, but the tailwing and the stairs are not. They should have been curved as well had it been a fish eye lense.

That was my first thought as well. With a fisheye it might be possible.

One winglet missing and an excessive amount of compression? 😀

not in the near term, there are too many 2nd hand planes available. They do have plans to make it in the future.

Rekkof has been attempting to restart the F70 production since 1996 now. They say they are very close to starting production of improved F70s in a few months. Apparantly an announcement is to be made at Farnborough show two weeks from now.

According to a few newspapers including (German) Handelsblatt and (Dutch) Telegraaf and Spits the idea is to make 45 planes a year at Lelystad airport. At the moment Rekkof claims to have sold 50 planes to 2 airlines, but won’t reveal the buyers.

On JP.net someone who has often given inside information mentioned that KLM Cityhopper wants to get 10 with another 10 on option. Who the other buyer is was not revealed. Probably Air France. VLM is also a good possibilitiy considering that VLM is owned by the same guy that wants to restart the production. In the past VLM has often stated that they want to get F70s.

So that sounds all nice and well. Remember though that similar announcements have been made for almost every Farnborough Air Show and Paris Air Show since 1996. I hope they will pull through, but for me seeing is believing.

Maybe Planetair sold their tickets at too low prices. That would explain why despite full loads Planetair still went belly up.

I know that in the grand scheme of things it is not that important, but anyone have a clue when the A321s and the F100s get painted in the new livery? Also, this year the F70 lease to KLM expires. Will KLM be allowed to extend the lease (they are eager to do so) or will BMI want to get the F70s back.

I meant to say that wouldn’t work either financially, would really need to leave the day before and overnight in Cologne. Too poor at the minute for that. Wouldn’t mind a German Wings flight mind ya. It would be about £150 return with an overnight stay at whatever price that might be? Interestingly the website times the inbound flight as 45 mins ?

You mean the flight to Germany right? That would be a 1 hour 45 minutes flight then. Mind the time difference!

Here is my loose translation. Please bare in mind that my last French class was 6 years ago and my last “practical” use of it was 3 years ago. Therefore this text should be regarded as somewhat dodgy, but I think I got the gest right.

During the war the freight [water or other liquid stuff I believe] send by air is worth loads.

At 10,000 US$ a flight, the business is going good.

    Buying a Boeing 727 costs around 1,000,000 US$.

director speaking At TransAfrik there is no limit [on flying]. We fly as much as we can. We operate 200 hours a month. Completely unheard of in the world. My personal record has been to rest 2 hours without the plane. It’s a massive effort.

The pay for the crew is unique. The captain gets 20,000 US$ per month.

Then something about how dangerous it is and comparable with Vietnam? Something like that anyway, it’s been ages since I had French class.

pilot speaking It is very dificult to fly in these conditons, and it requires all my attention. But the work is very rewarding.

Maybe someone else can give a more definitive translation?
