I start by finding a plane I can convert. This time I used an Air France A319. Often I use Air France planes as they are white (officially) and thus do not require a lot of work to convert.
I remove all the AF markings on the plane and look for picture of a Spirit plane at roughly the same angle. When I have found a picture I can use I copy the parts of their livery.
These copied parts are transferred to the AF plane. I rotated them slightly and resized them to fit the plane. When that was done I made the colours blend in a bit better. Because I had to resize the livery they had gone somewhat vague. I just overpainted the blue squares with the same shade of blue. At the same time I pasted over the windows that came with the piece cut out of the Spirit plane.
The last step was to copy the windows from the original AF photo and paste them into the Spirit A319. That’s all. Took me roughly 3 hours.

(I know i used this one before for another photo, but it is applicable here too)
it does not cost anything but time (though a decent photo editing program does help)
it took me 3 hours to make that
how do you mean?

not yet! 😀
there indeed was an airline called Tower Air. B747s and Tristars as well if I am not mistaken. They are no more though…
there’s an 747 parked at AMS. It was undergoing heavy maintenance, it has even had its engines removed. What will happen to it. Will someone buy it and finish of the overhaul, or will it be scrapped?
spirit a319
calm down Jeanske! You remember your first thread? Or mine (you’d have to dig deep in the archives for that!). Just consider threads like these the initiation ritual and you’ll be fine.
For flying I prefer AMS. Easy to change, clean and you won’t get lost. For spotting, its a toss between LHR for the variety and AMS for the excellent fascilities.

is dutch beer different from other beers, in that if you drink too much of it, you post double, rather than seeing double, as is the norm with other beers? 😉
It has at least twice the amount of alcohol an English beer has! 😀

Wasn’t KLM the only airline with the 742 SUD
No. Corsair and JAL also had some. In addition, JAL also has/had 741SUDs.
why should it be significant?
well, there are a few reasons why it is important. Firstly it is one of the most recognisable of passenger planes around. Secondly the 747 was, and still is, the flagship of KLM for many many years. Thirdly, it is one of only a handfull 747-200SUDs.
And most likely it would have been high on cycles making a sale to another airline not that lucrative anyway… 😉 Another reason, the other 747s have been sold/returned to lessor already!
If Le Bourget and Sinsheim can have a 747, so can the Aviodrome! And the Aviodrome’s 747 has a larger upper deck! Aviodrome rules! mwuhahahaaa 😀
it is still quite expensive when you bare in mind that taking the plane to lelystad is going to inflate the bill with another 300,000 euros or so. Still, all things considered that is a large house for a halfdecent price!
The plane will be used for displays obviously but will probably also be used as a small congress center.
this must have been Michael Jacksons inspiration for his own nose-jobs
will this livery only be applied to a few 737s, or can we also expect the 767s and 330s to sport these colours? I’d like to see that a lot!
i think blue fuselages should be banned for everyone but KLM, Korean and Tahiti Nui. They are the only ones that are nice.
Can’t say I like this livery at all. Its better than on the 757/767 I’ll grant you that, but it is still bad.
