The Embraer will not be operated by KLM, only Cityhopper. The order was a joint KLM/AF order, so some of the Embraers from this order will be delivered to AF Régional.

Just read on luchtvaartnieuws (dutch only) that it is likely the F100s will still outlive the F50s in the KLM fleet. KLM has said they want to increase capacity, so the ATR-42 will not be the replacement. At the moment it is a toss-up between the ATR-72 and the Q400.

The F70 will stay in the fleet for some time to come. In fact, Régional will be transferring their F70s (5) to KLM Cityhopper as their new E-190s are delivered.

In the article it is mentioned by Jan Witsenboer (director fleet development, KLM) that the E-170 is not necessarily gonna be the F70 replacement. KLM is also looking at Mitsubishi’s MRJ. The Russian Superjet, Chinese ARJ or canadian C-series are at the moment not considered. KLM considers Rekkof to be dead.

Of course we cant expect it to be flying on passenger flights as soon as it arrives! Lots of crew training no doubt! The KLC cabin crew we have based at NCL have all be doing Conversion course to the Embraer.

Just had confirmation you are right on that, as was indeed to be expected. First commercial flight will be the 17th to Zürich.

Anybody know when the first 100s will leave the fleet?

The first one will be going 17 november. That will be PH-MJL. However, that was a temporary lease and the plane was never even painted in KLM livery. As for KLM’s own fleet retirement plan, I do not know.

    Good looking Jet!

I Think ABZ and MAN will be the first airports to get the E190 visiting in KLC colours!

I thought it was to be EDI and MAN. Along with ZRH, GVA, CPH and MUC. I do not know which destinations will come first though, so since there is just one Embraer at the moment it might be a while before it lands in the UK. Then again, it might as well be tuesday already.

The Embraer is due to be delivered at AMS monday. Not sure if it will stay on the ground a few days for mechanics and ground crew to get used to it, or if it will be taken into service immediately. I would guess on the plane not being taken into service immediately.

The Red & White DHL 757s are still Regular visitors here in Warsaw, more so than the Yellow birds.I think there still quite a few in this livery

Not seen them for ages, and at work (yep, DHL) everything has been spraypainted yellow so I suppose it is easy for me to get fooled. 😮

Interesting to see the white/red DHL. I though they had all been repainted already.

Value for money is quite subjective, personally I think you actually get what you pay for. For instance, a flight to Paris Beauvais, great, it cost £5, but it costs another £50 for the taxi fare into Paris (which is where I wanted to go in the first place)

Defintaely true, and because of that there are a lot of destinations I would never use Ryanair. But if your intended destination is near a Ryanair field, you can get there cheaply. I will always pick BMI, KLM, BA or VLM over Ryanair when going to London as Stansted is hardly local.

However, at my local field Ryanair flies to Madrid (MAD/LEMD). While the MAD-EIN flight has inconvenient timing, the EIN-MAD flight is convenient. For under a 100 euro including taxes I can go to MAD for a weekend plane spotting, or just doing the tourist sites! Try getting such a fare with KLM/Transavia or Iberia/Clickair.

In NL the hard-shoulder is already opened for traffic during rush hours on the busier stretches of road. Those sections all have had emergency parking bays added. The matrix-boards above the road, the ones that notify speed limits etc, will indicate if the hard-shoulder is open or not.

Whether the hard-shoulder is opened or not is decided by the motorway autorities. Typically if the speeds drop to below 80kph they are opened, but I might be off a bit here. If there is an accident up ahead the hard shoulder remains/will be closed for use by emergency services only. On some stretches the hard-shoulder remains closed during freezing as the tarmac tends to be of lower quality.

Only difference is that in NL the access if free of charge.

I think the UK idea will only increase congestion. People will try to merge back onto the motorway before they pass the camera. Same as how people brake when they spot a speedtrap.

Has it been announced which airports (as opposed to general regions) Ryanair will fly to? When they say New York that opens up a lot of fields, even more with Ryanair’s way of looking at maps.

Ryanair is far from my favourite airline, but with fares like that I will manage for a few hours. As long as the airport is somewhat nearby the place advertised. People may bitch at Ryanair, but they offer tremendous value for money.

There’s a lot more to be announced yet.

Might it have to do with Virgin, since you fly for them?

One has to wonder where Lufty gets the money from. In a few years they managed to grab hold of a lot of airlines. Swiss, SNBA, BMI, Austrian, talks with SAS, they are setting up a Lufty-Italy to operate next to their subsidiary Air Dolomiti.

How come nobody mentioned Sinatra’s “Come fly with me” or The Motors’ “Airport” yet? And then there is the infamous TSA-gangstaz! Also nice is “Someday I’ll fly away” though I do not know the singer/band.

For some reason Queen’s “Don’t stop me now” always reminds me fo the final days of the Concorde. And while the song has no (understandable) lyrics, Adiemus is quite recognisable as the Delta add song. I seem to recall Singapore Airlines having used this tune as well.

According to a Seattle area newspaper, a stock analyst predicts the recent union strike against Boeing will force the planemaker to base future projects away from Seattle. This could apply to the 737 follow on and future 777 variants.

He believes they’ll build a new facility in the southern U.S. where unions are weaker…like EADS planned tanker facility.
Boeing has already committed to build the 787 in Washington state…

If they do that it would certainly be ironic. They only just closed down the Long Beach fasclity in Southern California.
