    Great shots.

Do you happen to know how many test flights there are per day? And if it makes a difference coming during a weekday or the weekend? I might visit Toulouse (or Hamburg) next year. Would be nice to catch a load of test flights from odd airlines!

Have they suspended all 747 ops, or only 747-300? If I recall correctly the 744 has been given a clean bill of health by the JAA.

Could someone please check the temperature in hell?

I would say that the chance of KLM operating intercontinental flights from any place other then AMS or a NWA hub is very remote.

Now had you said that NWA might introduce a ABZ flight, that I would find a whole lot more likely. Perhaps that is mr Knoops meant? A NWA flight with KLM code-sharing? After all, every NWA flight across the atlantic is a joint KL/NW flight.

EK has got a few slots, but their cargo flight is much more lucrative then a passenger flight would be. Therefor we do get Emirates Skycargo 747F’s, but no pax flights.

While it is common knowledge that KLM does not want them at AMS, they really have not a lot to say. The landing lots are handed out by a seperate company. Of course KLM being the largest customer does have a some clout with the slot coordinator.

However, the fault also lies with Emirates themselves. Emirates sets high standards, but also wants to get the slots cheap. Very cheap actually. The German airports where willing to go low to attract this high profile carrier. Schiphol was not willing to do so.

Also, Emirates has a large presence at Dusseldorf (double daily). Through that airport Emirates still serves part of the Netherlands.

at the least another spot is being put in place, unlike many airports who hate spotters LHR,CDG…..etc.

Well, technically it is not a new spot. The entire west side of the runway is already accesible for spotters. From line-up all the way to the end. Only difference is that a bunch of concrete will be poured so that cars won’t get dirty and the roach coach won’t get stuck. Probably some low fences too like what is now present at the Kaagbaan spot.

As speed is displayed in Knots not Kilometres/Hour it would seem a bit unlikely wouldn’t it?

    exmpa

Well, it was explained to me in kph. But if knots is the regular speed, then the equivalent to 50kph will probably be mentioned on the charts.

I have once heard that the official speed limit is 50 kph. However, an exception is made for the taxiway to the Polderbaan owing its length. Obviously traffice and weather permitting.

Actually, I have been told that the 737s used by Transavia have uprated engines specifically to make the taxi faster. Since Transavia flies a lot during the calmer periods since they are a charterer. Probably just nonsense, but it was a nice story I once heard nontheless. 😀

Fantastic! It wouldn’t surprise me if I saw you actually.. were you sat at some seats in front of a big window close to a Coffee place?

That would be me alright. Next to the Italian restaurant. If you can E-mail/PM me your E-mail adress the pics will be on your way.

p.s. don’t eat at said Italian restaurant. Suffice to say, I tried and the food came out from the wrong end.

I like the Virgin 346 with the new livery. The only one at the moment if I am not mistaken? Still prefer the older livery though! 😉

What a small world it is! I was at EWR that day as well, spotting planes. I flew back home next day (NWA DC9 EWR-DTW NWA 332 DTW-AMS).

I got a similar pic to your SQ A345, we might have even seen each other! Was you plane F-GZLH?

Why is everyone so obsessed with the terrace? Sure it is nice, but it willl take you at least 2 hours to get to AMS (one hour for check-in, one to fly not counting to time required to even get to the airport). So how hard can it be to add 15 minutes by bus and another 15 minutes walk to get to the runway?

Very nice. Was the KLCargo also taken from the observation platform? You must have used the bigma at full zoom!

I’m not convinced it is even legal to have a black box! How did you get your hands on it? Surely not e-Bay?
