Virgin Express will die no doubt. They have been taken over by SNBA and I believe they currently hold the VEX name-rights.
Maybe the whole BMI group can be renamed something like Virgin Europe?
Still find it VERY hard to believe a big airline like BMI can’t get some sort of replacement!!
At the moment there are no spare A330s. They are a very popular plane.
OK so they may get a “crappy” 767 that does’nt have their interior designing
That will upset the customers. They booked for a flight of luxury, only to be stuck in a old 767 with no IFE. The number of 767s with full AVOD (as availablt on the BMI 330s) is very small. I am not convinced there are any available at the moment.
they would not be losing revenue on what is said to be a very lucrative route,
From what I hear the route is not that lucrative. You should not mistake loadfactor with profit! The yield on this route is rather low.
as an example (distant one at that) if my van had to go off the road for a long period, i would find a suitable replacement from somewhere rather than just lose all my business it generates for a few months.
Judging from your location I am assuming you are a “white van man”. Do you haul pax or freight? You should realise that freight does not care whether it is moved in a ’06 DAF XF or a ’71 Ford Transit. As long as the freight arrives in one piece, on time and on budget you won’t here the forwarder complain.
Now passengers are a bit more demanding. If they are promised a nice bus (plane/train/ship) with all the trimmings, and get a bus that has nothing, they are pissed of. They may not be able to get (part of) their money back. But they are able, and likely, to take their money elsewhere for their next trip.
There are aircraft easily suitable out there, maybe soon even A330’s since the charter airlines will be winding down a bit for winter.
If anything it will increase the long distance flights for charterers to places like the Carribean.
I can think of a Dutch airline with a spare 767 or two. Said airline already supplies another 767 to BMI.
Visit http://www.schipholspotter.com for a list with spots and directions. If you got any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask them and I shall answer them.
Note that the Aalsmeerderbaan is closed due to a botched up runway resurfacing. Send me a mail/PM around the 29th or 30th and I will let you know the most likely runway usage.
In due course a list with expected visitors can be found at http://www.scramble.nl (don’t ask for expectations, they will be placed sooner or later). Another site for expectations is http://www.aviationphotos.org/. Again, don’t expect the list to pop up untill the 30th at the earliest. Only special visitors are listed a few days in advance… if at all.
Unfortunately you are 1 day late for the last NW DC-10 flight. It is scheduled for the 30th .
Back to work for me now… just 4 hours 4 minutes 23 seconds to go. Quiet day today so time goes very slowly indeed. 🙁
G-CEFD is registered to Blue Sky One Ltd (N172UA)
G-CEFE to Blue Sky Two Ltd (N176UA)
G-CEFF to Blue Sky Three Ltd (N190UA)
Note there are 3 seperate Blue Sky companies, no doubt tax related. All of them registered in the with the Ballli Group.
Now I dug up an E-mail about blue sky. It is a very very long text so I will have to read carefully and get some summary written out. Long story short, there where/are plans to operate them by/for Iran.
Edited to add: I want my 20 minutes back! Speed-read the entire 9 page article. Not a word about the airline. But the owner of the Balli Group is described in detail. Started out wealthy under the Iranian Shah. Fled the country with nothing at all after the Iranian revolution. Worked hard, made a lot of money. Bought some large companies. Suspected of moneyloundering, unfair business practises and a lot of other white-collar crimes. German autorities are investigating him, as are UK? Juicy detail, Wembley is being build with money the FA borrowed from this guy’s company.
Should just have read the reply to that overly large mail (bold added by me):
These aircraft were destined to operate in Iran. B747-400 aircraft are “end-user limited” by the US Government and cannot be operated in that country. Don’t ask me how I know. It’s not easy to work around the US sanctions and anyone who is involved in these operations, is considered to be involved in a criminal offence. My guess is that the owner is trying hard to work around the sanctions and I wish him great luck. These aircraft could be sitting on the ramp for a little longer.
Let me know if anyone is interested in the full article. Unlikely I know, but at least I seem polite by offering. 😉 😀
Cheers mate for info lets hope they do get to lift the ban stupid European Commission
james
This is not a decision from the EC. The ban is implemented by the pan-European Joint Aviation Autorities (JAA). If one of the JAA members decide to ban an airline, then the other European aviation autorities will follow. Untill we hear which autority originally banned DAS, and the reason behind it, we can not point fingers.
I find that often it helps if you are able to show some photos, preferably photos you took yourselves (in case they ask for details). Make sure you include at least a few photos where you can see how close you can get to airplanes “elsewhere”. If you want I can show you a few AMS and ZRH shots where you can see people standing next to a runway. Photos like those are often more effective at explaining your hobby.
In your case it might even be interesting to add a few shots from Air Force 1. After all, the average police officer in the US will think twice about accusing you of standing too close to planes when you can show some detail shots of AF1 (again, mail me if you are interested).
Did you manage to get some replacement umbrellas? 🙂
Not yet. I got myself a rain suit though. This I can wear, while people catching a ride can just get wet. :diablo:
Really nice shots. I like the in-flight shot and the Surinam Airways most! Hope you are dry by now? 😀
Great pics paul. How many NW flights are there a day???
There are 11 daily NW flights (22 if you count arrivals and departures seperately). On sundays there is one more rotation.
At the moment only 2 MSP flights are still with a DC-10. All other fllights are A330s. At the end of the month the DC-10s will be a thing of the past at AMS as well. Until the 757 is introduced some time next year for the summer schedule, NW will only fly A330s into AMS.
Paul: check this site for the expectations for tomorrow. Have fun!

Special high lights:
ETA 15:00 ETD 17:00 – Tunis Air Force C130
ETA 01:50 ETD 28OCT – Kenya Airways 737 (Possibly parked at Oost? Coming for maintenance. Crappy time I know.)
Now that British Aerospace is out of Airbus, and EADS N.V. being 100% owner of Airbus S.A.S., wouldn’t it be an interesting option to liquidate Airbus S.A.S. and directly integrate it into EADS N.V. as “Commercial Aircraft Division” (analogue to “Military Transport Aircraft Division”), with the planes marketed under the brand name of “Airbus”?
Pro – Con?
Btw, I find it strange, that they have a “Military Transport Aircraft Division”, but no “Military Aircraft Division”, and their share in Eurofighter GmbH being part of “Defense & Security”. I know – historical reasons, but the whole structure looks in need of serious restructuring.
The idea is good from a business point of view. Are you going to explain to the French that Airbus will (in name only) become a Dutch company? If anyone is going to be able to pull of that feat, I think there might be a chance of Airbus becoming “commercial aircraft division”.
In the end it is just a name and a tax office.
What happened with the TV series? Is it still being made? It used to be broadcast in NL (with subtitles, LOL), but have not seen it in a long while.
Well, I saw it at AMS today. So either the list is wrong, or there is another DAS Air Cargo flying around? Could that be it?
The first page of te EU document linked to above specifically states that “[DAS Air Cargo] operations are subject to a ban within the [European] Community”.
“[DAS Air Cargo is] permitted to exercise traffic rights by using wet-leased aircraft of an air carrier which is not subject to an operating ban, provided that the relevant safety standards are complied with.”
I have one place in mind but I would be worried about upsetting too many people if I aired it!
Since the UK is the only country that is represented by more then 1 user on this board, I hazard a guess and say it is Wales? :diablo:
are they making the F100 or the F70?
James
At the moment they are only making hot air. They intend to make planes, but they have had that intention for the best part of 10 years. I hope it will turn into full scale plane production, but won’t hold my breath.
