Whilst others may/may not (one for the courts) be copying apple, the fact remains their products are very over-priced. An article in The Times showed an iPhone 5 costs around £150 to manufacture and distribute, yet if you were to buy one off the high-street you’d be looking at paying around £530. That’s one hell of a mark-up.
The Samsung Galaxy SIII (arguably a better handset) is available for around £300.

That’s the very reason I have never, and have no plans to, visit Dubai. It’ll be interesting to see what they’re left with once the oil dries up…

    it looked quite foggy?

Flights were being diverted from LCY this morning due to fog. I hadn’t noticed the fog, although at ground level there’s usually very little in London. Fog over the capital is usually at ~500-900ft. It’s too warm and built up at ground level for the fog to come any lower than that.

One miracle occurred, the crane driver was late to work, otherwise you can add +1 to the fatalities. Apparently he was one of the most punctual around.

Despite the helicopter catching fire on impact with the ground – there were rivers of burning fuel running down Wandsworth Road – train services continued through Vauxhall Station (surface and underground rail) as normal.

No, they closed the line for 20 minutes as engineers inspected it for damage.

I wonder if Apple will have the same fate as Nokia? Once a mobile juggernaut, now a frail shadow of its former self. :diablo:

I’ve said for months now that apple risks a stock collapse and rapid sell off. The company is hugely over-valued (although it has fallen significantly on the NYSE over the past few months). I personally wouldn’t be surprised if 30-40% of apple’s share price was written off in a two-day period, such is the extent of their bullish price tag.

In Q4 2011 apple had a 85% market share in the tablet market with their flagship iPad. Today that figure stands at 45%.

Bmused, maybe we have a difference of opinion? But if I were the pilot who received a faulty battery indication and a smell (less than a week after a JAL battery caught fire) I’d probably evacuate too.

Why would you wait to see smoke before evacuating? Surely by then you’re compromising the safety of your passengers and crew? In 2011? The captain of a VS A330 ordered a full evac on the runway at LGW after some battery alarms went off. Turns out it was a faulty circuit breaker.

Yeah that’s what the radio host at 08:20 this morning was suggesting.
RIP to the two who died but it could have been a lot worse, the country’s busiest train station, MI6 and several major pedestrian roads are all nearby.

RIP to those on those who died.

It was travel chaos into work today, on my commute my twitter was buzzing with comments from colleagues about an explosion near MI6. Vauxhall and Waterloo stations were closed.

It’s being reported that the 700+ ft crane was erected over-night and the pilot flying in fog may not have received the NATS advisory.

I too agree with your sentiments. I find the Emirates décor a little tacky and over the top, the plastic wood veneer and spray-on-gold finishings remind me of a ’70s motel room.

The worst part is the complementary tube of pringles. Nothing screams despair more than a £0.49 tube of pringles standing next to a vase of synthetic orchids on an £8,000 ticket.

I think it’s value for money. For roughly 140 quid you get quality add-free broadcasting. 2 BBC HD tv channels showing well filmed and edited documentaries (the recent Africa springs to mind) as well as some great comedies. I also think, on the whole, BBC news is far better then its competitors – but that’s probably due to their size (4000 journalists!).

Also, although you don’t need a licence to view it, BBC iPlayer is far easier to navigate than itvplayer or 4oD
