I’m not sure AA will be updating their 757 fleet? With new A321s and 787s round the corner, it might not be worth their while.

The incredible statistic in there is that there are 750 A320s currently in service with Chinese operators 😮

Shouldn’t believe what you read on Twatter….

Well, I tend to agree but in the world of the fast moving markets, everyone’s always trying to get an edge over the competition. The main way to do this is to make sure you have a live stream of information flowing in, all the large stock-brokerages have highly sophisticated programs that collaborate all the headlines together from over the web, twitter, google news, market watch etc. and put it into a constantly moving real-time live stream. It’s hard to explain but it looks something like a receipt being printed at a supermarket, every new news item is added to the end. The people pushing the buttons and shouting down the phones may well have not known the source when it came in on the news-wire, they’re job is to just inform the guys on the trading floor ASAP to give them the best chance of cutting their loses. If it wasn’t for the fact it’s all a giant information race, maybe the source could have been validated first.

There’s an old saying that if you so much as cough or sneeze in the NYSE it’s enough to cause a collapse, to say they’re sensitive to information is an understatement 😀

That’s assuming you can re-buy them in time before they go back up again. We’re talking fractions of a second.

What I find very amusing is GDP “growth” has almost a direct correlation to the rate of inflation. For most of the past decade we’ve been hovering around 1-3% inflation… funnily enough that’s also what our GDP’s been doing.
Now look at Japan, Inflation at -1-0% over the past decade… their GDP? It’s done the same…
It’s not just here in the West, look at the emerging economies like China… 7-8% inflation, 7-8% GDP growth. No matter where you look, the story’s near enough the same.

If you look at inflation adjusted mean household incomes for the US, you’ll see they’re actually worse off than they were 40 years ago.

As MSphere rightly points out, people desire to be richer than they deserve to be. Workers and governments demand higher pay, so employers give them the extra salary… The flip-side of this; is what could be made for £5 before, now takes £7 due to the increase in labor costs. So when those same workers go to the shops to buy the products; instead of the RRP being £7, it’s now £9.
People aren’t any richer than they were before the wage rise, but they feel richer and that’s what matters.

When I saw the attached picture my jaw literally dropped, I have never seen a tail strike that bad before! (Even the serious Emirates incident at MEL a few years back looks nothing but a mere scratch compared to this)

For the crew to report a ‘loss of pressure’ this would suggest they went above 10,000 feet? Which would also suggest they originally had no intention to return to the airport and had planned to continue regardless? If that’s the case, this was sheer recklessness from the crew; whilst it’s not uncommon for crews to only realise they’ve had a run-in with the tarmac on post-flight inspections at the arrival airport, I find it hard to believe that is the case here.

As MSR777 mentions, this could have been a lot worse.

My deepest condolences to the bereaved and injured.
Senseless inhumane acts will always take place in all countries, even after yesterday’s evils are residing in hell.

It is at times like these we must all remain strong and united together, terrorists must not and will not succeed in changing our lives through the killings of innocent civilians.
