Grand Opening, 2014 Sywell Aviation Museum
I hope you’ve booked better weather than last year’s Grand Opening!

This must be a very challenging recovery operation for the emergency crews, what with the darkness, the nature of the Norfolk coast and the possibility of live ammunition on board.
I wish I could wrap Christmas presents that well!
An interesting question that comes from this though…are the operations of LCY impacted in anyway as a result of the Red Bull Air Race?
The Red Bull Air Race is usually held over a weekend, and I know that LCY closes for 24hrs (Sat 12:00 to Sun 12:00); is there a rule that all the Red Bull flights have to be completed during this time when the main airport is not in use, and if so…why don’t they just use LCY’s runway instead of having their own one?
I was at the motor show on one of the weekdays when there was either practice or qualifying going on for the Red Bull Air Race, and there seemed to be regular airline flights in and out occurring as well as the Red Bull guys doing their stuff, so I presume it can’t have had a huge impact. On a side note, this year’s UK round of the Red Bull Air Race is being held at Ascot Racecourse.
I have a vague recollection that the runway was for the Red Bull Air Race.
Didn’t get to many events this year, so not a huge amount to choose from, but here’s five that I like:
Jumpin’ Jacques in the Sywell snow
Extra 300 at Old Warden
Optica at Old Warden
Woburn Moth Rally
Woburn Moth Rally

I believe the flag would be this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Civil_Air_Ensign
Not physically spotted, but was just messing around on flightradar24.com and saw a NASA WB57 over Woodbridge.
What looks like a yellow Pitts being thrown around the sky over Ampthill just now.

Apache over Ampthill just now, heading west.
A few from in the distance from Hayling Island this weekend. A Dragon Rapide on Saturday, shortly after 1pm, a Harvard later in the afternoon and the sound of a Merlin engine performing a display routine somewhere that I couldn’t see. Then this morning, a Proctor at about 9:30 and as I was going over the bridge to leave the island I happened to glance to the right and saw a Ju52 coming straight at me, prompting me to launch the car into the nearest car park and grab my camera.
Just now over Ampthill, a biplane accompanied by a high wing monoplane. Couldn’t see much detail as I was looking out of the office window into the sun and my eyes were streaming!
Merlin helicopter, high and slow over Ampthill just before 11am, heading East-ish.
Fieseler Storch over Ampthill just now.
