I agree that the Proctor is probably G-AIAE. ALOK and AIEY were ‘small’ Proctors which had a smaller square rear window. It can be seen in the photo that the aircraft has a long rear window so it is a ‘large’ Proctor (Mk4 or 5). AIAE was a Mk5.
From my records I have AIED w.f.u at Shoreham 10-65 and AIKH crashed at Shoreham 07-47 so either of those could be the identity of the unknown Proctor. (again, both were ‘small’ Proctors).
Paul, I would be interested to read that article on BoB film, can you scan it and email it to me?
Jon.
I’m researching Percival aircraft, especially trying to find out how many are surviving.
I’ve currently got 47 Provosts on my list from around the world, 9 of which are airworthy.
Jon.
Excellent, thanks guys I knew someone would know the answer. I’m going to order it on DVD now.
Anyone know of any other films with Percival aircraft in them??
I’m guessing the film I saw was a 60’s or 70’s film. From my quick internet searching Enigma is a new film? (2001)
and here it is:
Aircraft from initial photo is Prentice G-APJB, which is still flying today with Air Atlantique (see Avatar) and has an exceptionally fantastic pilot. (me)
How about this one then, does anyone recognise these fuel pumps?
From looking at various Halfpenny Green photos it is looking promising. They had air races there in the 70s (although I was told the photo was 60s?).
Robbelc could be a winner!
I wish I could give you a clue, I don’t actually know thats why I’m asking.
I don’t think its Coventry, as there would be 3 lines of hangars.
It may have been taken at one of the air races in the 60s. Does anyone have a list of where/when they were?
Phoenix Aviation at Bruntingthorpe always have odd bits lying around, try contacting them. I’ll make a note of what they’ve got next time I pop in.
Jon.
I’m hopefully bringing the Prentice in on Friday. She’ll stay there all weekend, but i’m on standby for the Coastguard all weekend so I’ll be back at Coventry.
Do you know if the Southend Prentice has been sold, or are you assuming it has been sold? It has been at Biggin Hill for some time now for maintenance. I think it is back at Southend ??
Don’t forget G-AMCA, now at the Aviodrome at Leylstad in a hideous (but authentic) orange livery.
How about G-DAKK ? Was that ever Air Antique? If so, it was before my time.
Jon.
Thanks for the picture Daz, it seems that there is no way of telling which aircraft is which, as the picture I posted was G-AIAE and they both look identical!!
Jon.
Hi Daz,
Scans of those pictures would be great, thanks.
Any idea when and where they were scrapped?
Jon.
